LeBron James, the renowned basketball superstar and Los Angeles Lakers player, has once again made his political stance clear by endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris in her presidential bid. On Thursday, October 31, James shared his endorsement on social media, accompanied by a powerful video montage that highlights former President Donald Trump's racist and xenophobic rhetoric.

In his post, James emphasized his concern for the future of his children and family, stating, "When I think about my kids and my family and how they will grow up, the choice is clear to me. VOTE KAMALA HARRIS!!!" The video, which has been viewed by nearly 16 million users, interweaves historical civil rights demonstrations and injustices with clips of Trump's derogatory comments. It includes soundbites from Trump discussing the city of Detroit, undocumented immigrants, and the Central Park Five, among other topics. The video concludes with the poignant message: "Hate takes us back."

This endorsement is not surprising given James' long history of supporting Democratic candidates. He has previously endorsed Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Joe Biden, and has been an outspoken critic of Trump. In 2017, James famously labeled Trump a "bum" after the then-president rescinded an invitation for NBA star Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors to visit the White House. James also criticized Trump for his remarks on athletes kneeling during the national anthem following the death of George Floyd.

James' involvement in politics extends beyond endorsements. He founded More Than A Vote, an organization dedicated to fighting voter suppression, which successfully recruited thousands of poll workers in predominantly Black voting districts and helped Floridians clear debts related to felony convictions to facilitate their voter registration.

The video shared by James also includes remarks from a comedian, Tony Hinchcliffe, who made racist jokes at a recent Trump rally at Madison Square Garden. This event drew widespread condemnation for its misogynist and racist language.

As Election Day approaches, both the Harris and Trump campaigns are leveraging celebrity influence. While Harris has garnered support from celebrities like Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Bad Bunny, and Arnold Schwarzenegger, Trump has been supported by figures such as retired NFL quarterback Brett Favre.

LeBron James' endorsement of Kamala Harris underscores his commitment to using his platform to advocate for social justice and to influence the political landscape. His message is clear: he believes that the future of his family and community depends on the leadership that is elected, and he is urging others to make their voices heard at the polls.
