Leonel Hernandez Full Length Police Interrogation

Leonel Hernandez is charged with murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Richard Madrigal, a former radio DJ and sales manager at Visit El Paso on June 12, 2016, in his apartment at the Terrace Hills Apartments, 4111 Westcity Court, in West El Paso.

Hernandez, who is facing one count of murder, allegedly told El Paso Police Department officers that he hid a gun that police believed was used in the fatal shooting of Richard Madrigal in a truck owned by his father, according to testimony.

The handgun believed to have been used in the fatal shooting of a popular El Paso DJ was found in one of the business trucks owned by the defendant’s father.

Richard Madrigal was born and raised in El Paso, TX. After graduating from high school, he joined the US Navy where he served his country with pride. Upon discharge, he returned home to begin his career in radio. He worked for KLAQ and KXPZ, where he was best known as DJ Rick MardiGras. At the time of his passing, he was working as a Sales Manager for Destination El Paso.
