NO JAB? NO JOB.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio announced he was imposing a vaccine mandate for private companies, just three weeks before he leaves office on December 31. This affects everyone from construction workers, to the cashier at Walgreens, to the investment banker at Goldman Sachs. No jab, no job.
The details: NYC is the first place in the nation to impose a mandate like this. It goes into effect on December 27, with no testing option, and affects over 184,000 private businesses. It also mandates two vaccine doses, so if you have the one-dose J&J vaccine, it appears you need a booster.
Mandating kids: De Blasio will also force children over 5 years old to be vaccinated in order to enter private businesses like restaurants and entertainment facilities. This order goes into place on December 14. Imagine not letting a child into a Mcdonald's or a bowling alley because they haven't been taken an experimental vaccine.
The demographics: NYC Council Minority leader Joe Borelli broke it down in terms that Democrats understand - race. He explained that the following people "will be ineligible and legally barred from working in New York City":
45% of blacks
40% of whites
30% of Hispanics
What happens next: There is a lot of hope that this gets challenged in the courts, similar to Joe Biden's vaccine mandates which a federal appeals court blocked last month citing “grave statutory and constitutional issues.” There is also hope that the new mayor will outright kill de Blasio's mandate when he enters office on January 1.
New York Congressman Lee Zeldin summed this up best: "When you dangerously combine a far-left, lame-duck politician, who is anti-business, one-dimensional, unaccountable, not bright and has a perpetual ‘I always know best’ attitude, you get Bill de Blasio, the worst mayor in America. There is no way this job-killing, small business-suppressing mandate is legal!”
