Finding Your Holy Grail helps people navigate the post-pandemic reality we now find ourselves in.
Over the last 10 weeks, the show’s host, Dr. Mandy Simon has interviewed experts, supporting the audience to build skills for resilience to live fearless in an uncertain world. As we head into the beginning of 2021, the show takes a deep dive into key themes that have emerged as priorities to the audience.
In this episode, Dr. Mandy Simon explores Our Need For Safety. She is joined by Dr. Gordon MacMillan, the show’s co-creator. It’s an important topic – When we feel safe, we can logically function outside of overwhelming and feeling out of control.
The conversation is framed by Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. This is the theory that all humans before they can be productive members of society require the basic needs of food, shelter, and water prior to being able to consider our more advanced human process of dreaming and creating, and even goal setting.
For many in the audience, the physiological needs of food, water, shelter are still being met. Even so, we don't feel safe. There's something about wearing a facemask, staying inside, not interacting with other people, which makes us feel isolated and inhuman. This erodes the quality of our social interactions and can have a detrimental impact on our bonds of affection.
This show relates what so many of us are feeling each day, and how we explore recognizing all we have lost control of during these times. How can we hope to dream and set goals and realize the important and amazing people and lives we were living and planning when the pandemic emerged? To thrive and not just survive the show’s hosts encourage the audience to explore three
fundamental aspects where the Need for Safety is interrupting their ability to feel deeply connected to themselves and others.
