The twentieth century couriered the collapse or deprecation of the world's monarchies and the dissolution of European colonialism. Democracy ruled the western world for one hundred years – but the establishment powers did not dissipate; instead, they receded to the corridors of finance, corporatism, and bureaucracy.
They distracted us with the red scare, false patriotism, and finally, insanely affordable shiny objects. They waited with ‘bated breath until the opportunity presented itself to see ‘government of the people, by the people, for the people’ perish from the earth.
2020 is the book-end to 2001: a nineteen-year period in which the peasantry found itself on the proverbial slippery slope to subjugation and its conclusion takes us past the point of no return.
