Richard A. Brown III, is the First African American Master PGA Professional

Master PGA Professional, Richard Brown III has been teaching golf professionally since 1987. He started at Lake Chabot Golf Club in Oakland, California under the tutelage of PGA Professionals Dick and Kelly Fry. He also credits, Bob Johnson, Calvin Peete, Lee Elder, Charlie Sifford, Ted Rhodes, Bill Spiller, and Jim Dent for laying a foundation, which provided him an opportunity to be a PGA Professional. Having taught thousands of lessons, Richard has had the opportunity to instruct everyone from new golfers to players on various Professional Tours.

In 1977, he received a golf scholarship to attend Grambling State University. Richard graduated Grambling State University(class of 1982), with degrees in Information Systems and Accounting. Brown is an active member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Rho Xi Chapter.

In 2017 Richard earned PGA Certified Professional status. He is recognized as a U.S. Kids Top 50 Junior Instructor.Brown III operates the Richard Brown School of Golf, where he offers various player development programs for kids and adults.

Richard is currently a full time employee of the PGA of America, working as an Education Faculty member. Some of his responsibilities include, conducting educational seminars to PGA Associates and University students on how to teach and perform quality golf lessons. He participates in the mentor program to help Associates and members with their continuing education requirements.

Richard is also the Director of Instruction at Quail Valley Golf Club in Missouri City, Texas. Richard was the Director of Instruction at Pecan Grove Plantation Country Club, in Richmond, Texas, from 2007 – 2011. He was also the Director of Instruction at Branchburg Family Golf Center in Branchburg, New Jersey from 2004 - 2006.

Richard was the Golf Director at Rutgers University from 1999 - 2003. His focus was to provide basic and advanced instruction to the student body, faculty and alumni.

Before working in New Jersey, Richard has spent time in Nashville, Tennessee working as an Assistant Golf Professional at Forrest Crossings Golf Club. Stops were also made at Woodland Hills Country Club and Brae Mar Country Club in Woodland Hills, California.
