show moreI had just dropped a guy off on Dunlop and immediately got an Uber alert to pick up a retired couple from Premier. After arriving, I jumped out of the Jeep and helped the gentleman with his walker while his wife sat in the backseat. I went around and opened the door so he could keep her company. As soon as I pulled out, the little old lady said, “Quite the haircut you have there, are you a wrestler or something?” I told her I was actually not a good enough actor for that.
They went on to tell me how much they missed living in Florida but ended up here to be near family. As we got closer to exit one I was asked if I minded going through the Walgreen drive thru before taking them home. I explained how I would make the special stop because she loved my hair so much. They suggested I pull up to the window so her husband could speak to the employee. After the polite, “welcome to Walgreens”, things went downhill.
My passenger said he had an order called in. The team member asked him to repeat the name and the old fellow screamed out his name and said, ARE YOU DEAF!” I shrunk down in my seat and acted like I was interested in something in the next parking lot. My passenger had trouble reaching the window to give them his credit card and I was unable to back up because of the car behind me. His wife ended up getting out of the jeep and waiting outside by the window. When the employee appeared again with the prescription he politely asked her how she was doing. Her response, “Can you smell that food cooking out here?” The man behind the window mentioned how he wished he could smell it from inside. The old woman then said, “No you don't because it STINKS.” By this time I was practically under my seat.
The little old lady made her way back to the rear passenger seat and told her husband he was embarrassing and had no patience. I'm grateful she keeps him in check. I love old people.
