Johnathon Banks was still an active boxer -- not a coach -- when Wladimir Klitschko asked him to become his head trainer, and was equally stunned earlier this month when he got the same kind of out-of-the-blue phone call from Gennady Golovkin.
Banks joins us this week to discuss how it happened, why it happened, and what he plans to do to help GGG return to power in the middleweight division.
Always a straight shooter, Banks pulls no punches in this in-depth interview.
Our conversation with Johnathon Banks is preceded by insight from expect analysts Travis Hartman, Rizwaan Zahid, and John J. Raspanti on Julian Williams upset of Jarrett Hurd, Emanuel Navarrete's second-straight stunner over Isaac Dogboe, previews of Harrison-Charlo II, Pacquiao-Thurman, and a potential Spence-Canelo clash.
Raspanti also eulogizes Harold Lederman and Bert Cooper, and weighs in on trainer Eddy Reynoso's prediction that Canelo will be remembered as the greatest Mexican fighter ever, eclipsing Julio Cesar Chavez, Salvador Sanchez, Ruben Olivares, Ricardo Lopez, Daniel Zaragosa, Morales, Barrera, Marquez, Zarate, Zamora, Pipino Cuevas, Kid Azteca, and multiple other all-time greats.
And our British correspondent, Paul McLaughlin, brings us up to date on the red-hot boxing scene in the United Kingdom.
Dennis Taylor is host of The Ringside Boxing Show, editor/publiher of www.ringsideboxingshow.com, and co-author (with John J. Raspanti) of "Intimate Warfare: The True Story of the Arturo Gatti and Micky Ward Boxing Trilogy," and Amazon bestseller.
