We all have run away from danger, something scary, or even when we play. But in an active shooter event, RUN is as much mental as it is physical. When we are faced with a shooting it is a surprise, the threat is unknown, and these issues cause us to have problems most people haven’t experienced. Have you ever heard of using the manta RUN HIDE FIGHT for an active shooter event? Sounds easy right? Believe me, when you are faced with an active shooter, like my husband and I were, it is the last thing you might think of unless you have a plan already thought out. That is why in the next few months, Troy and I are going to break down each component of RUN, HIDE, FIGHT to help you assess and make a plan to help save your life. Today we are going to talk about RUN and share what to look for when making your plan of escape.
Our guest this week is Detective Troy Zeeman who has been in Law Enforcement for over 25 years with many different assignments such as Patrol, Gang Units, and Traffic Investigations. He has been training active shooter response tactics since the Columbine school shooting in 1999. Troy and Shannon, his wife, founded Active Shooter Prep after surviving the Route 91 mass shooting in 2017 with a single mission, to provide knowledge and hope of survival in an active shooter event. We travel the United States training civilians on how to survive an active shooter event. Together we wrote “Active Shooter! How To Survive The Most Important 4 Minutes Of Your Life”, where we share our story of surviving the deadliest mass shooting in the United States and the training we created from Troy’s many years of police training and our personal experience.
