Welcome back! Last week’s episode left us on quite a cliffhanger. The orphans were about to be evicted from their home, and Margaret had made it her mission to find them a new place to live.
Margaret was determined to find someone to donate a house for them, and in true Margaret fashion, she made it happen. In October 1836, the sisters and the orphans moved into their new and improved home.

In a surprising turn of events, a few years later, the diocese received a land donation for an orphanage, and Margaret was again tasked with fundraising for another new orphanage. She was (again!) quite successful, and in 1840, the sisters and orphans moved to a second new home.

Margaret was a genius fundraiser and generous caretaker, and she ran a successful business empire. This period in Margaret’s life, however, was not without challenges. As a port city, New Orleans experienced lacking infrastructure and much disease. In the early 1950s, New Orleans faced a large yellow fever epidemic, and the Sisters of Charity, including Margaret, were called to serve the sick.
