show moreJoe beings with some breaking news. WWE star Bray Wyatt (real name Windham Rotunda) pass away earlier on Thursday at 36 years old. Joe hasn’t watched wrestling in years, but it caught his eye knowing someone that young passed away.
Then go mentions more breaking news, or is it tearing? Shohei Ohtani is out as a pitcher for the rest of the year and might be done completely for the year. Seems like every move the Angels made since going all in to get into the playoffs have backfired with a poor August record, and Ohtani’s UCL injury, which may require another Tommy John surgery. Oh, and Mike Trout won’t be on the field at CBP next week as he’s back on the injured list.
Another pitcher who had TJ surgery was Stephen Strasburg, and he’s announcing his retirement. It becomes official September 9. He had a ton of injuries, but did win a World Series in DC.
Another player who is out for the year is Stone Garrett. He broke his leg when his spike caught the padding of the right field fence in Yankee Stadium on Wednesday. Joe’s glad he did not see any video of that play.
On Tuesday’s show, Joe spitballed an idea where the White Sox could build a stadium on the land that was Arlington Park racetrack. Apparently Steve Zalusky of the Daily Herald, a suburban Chicago newspaper thinks the same, and the mayor of Arlington Heights would like to see it, and a village trustee says you can build both the Bears stadium and a White Sox stadium in the Arlington race track infield since that tract of land is so massive.
Joe also gives out two picks for Week 0 of the College Football season, as well as his pick for Saturday’s Travers Stakes at Saratoga.
