On this episode of The Jazz Flyte Podcast, host Darrell sits down with Billboard Top 20 artist Jason Jackson, who has been making waves since his debut EP “Movin' On” dropped in 2021. Jason’s journey into music started at a young age in Wilmington, NC, where he studied under James Brown’s legendary saxophonist, Leroy Harper Jr. By high school, Jason had already landed a gig in the house band at the House of Blues in Myrtle Beach, SC, where he opened for the likes of Brian McKnight, Morris Day & The Time, KC & The Sunshine Band, and Michael McDonald.

In this episode, Jason reflects on his musical beginnings, starting with the clarinet in sixth grade before a pivotal scene in The Blues Brothers inspired him to switch to the saxophone. He shares insights into the transition, including the physical demands of increasing his lung capacity and mastering circular breathing. 

Jason’s path wasn’t just music-focused. In his late 20s, a job near a Navy base sparked an unexpected turn, leading him to enlist in the military. He talks about how the discipline and structure from his military training now help him meet deadlines and stay focused in his music career.
