I had first met Sam when I was running Reverse Marketing & Sales training for the team at Atwork Australia at Gippsland Victoria late last year. I remember before I was about to start the training, the Regional manager pops into the training room and asks me if we could kick off the training by her presenting one of their Job Coaches Sam Smith with a trophy. It was to award her on being the Employment Consultant of the month. The regional manager gave a great little speech about Sam’s dedication, great work and consistently hitting her targets. As the day went by, through my own observation, I noticed that Sam stood out. She was highly knowledgeable in Sales, relationship building and led with purpose. So, I naturally approached her and asked if she wanted to be a guest on this podcast, which she said yes to.
Before joining the world of Disability Employment, Sam has been working in business development for 13 years and then took these skills into her current role. Sam does definitely lead with purpose through a passion for changing people's lives. She also does a lot of work and advocacy within the LGBT community and will also share some of the work that she's been doing with Atwork Australia on that topic.
She’s a great networker in the local community of Gippsland and made it her mission to get the word out there about disability employment. Thanks to her efforts and skills there have been about eight articles on good news stories about locals in the community with disabilities, gaining employment.
I highly recommend listening to this full episode as Sam has shares an in-depth knowledge.
Some of the topics we covered on the full podcast:
1.What does the day of a Job Coach look like/consist of
2.What she loves most about what she does
3.Her work within the LGBT community, and how she’s extended her advocacy to her work within Atwork Australia
4.Sam’s top tips to getting the best out of her customer (jobseeker)
5.Myths and misconceptions when it comes to hiring someone with a disability
6.A success story about a client who found a job and how their life has been impacted?
