Salmos 10:1-18:
Oh SEÑOR, ¿por qué te mantienes lejos y te escondes en los tiempos de angustia? Con arrogancia el impío persigue al pobre. ¡Sean atrapados en los artificios que han maquinado! Porque el impío se gloría del apetito de su alma, y el codicioso maldice y desprecia al SEÑOR. El impío, por la altivez de su rostro, no le busca; no está Dios en ninguno de sus pensamientos. En todo tiempo son torcidos sus caminos; tus juicios están muy por encima de su vista, y a todos sus adversarios desprecia. Dice en su corazón: “No seré movido; de generación en generación nunca estaré en infortunio”. Su boca está llena de maldición, engaño y fraude; debajo de su lengua hay vejación e iniquidad. Pone emboscadas a las aldeas; en los escondrijos mata a los inocentes; sus ojos vigilan a los desdichados. Acecha desde un escondite, como el león desde la espesura. Acecha para arrebatar al pobre; arrebata al pobre atrayéndolo a su red. Se agacha, lo aplasta; y en sus fuertes garras caen los desdichados. Dice en su corazón: “Dios se ha olvidado. Ha ocultado su rostro; nunca lo verá”. ¡Levántate, oh SEÑOR Dios; alza tu mano! No te olvides de los pobres. ¿Por qué desprecia el impío a Dios? En su corazón piensa que tú no lo llamarás a cuenta. Ciertamente tú ves la vejación y la provocación; las miras para dar la recompensa. A tus manos se acoge el desdichado; tú eres el amparo del huérfano. Quebranta el brazo del impío y del malo; castígalos por su perversidad hasta que desistan de ella. ¡El SEÑOR es Rey para siempre! De su tierra desaparecerán las naciones. El deseo de los humildes escuchas, oh SEÑOR; tú dispones su corazón y tienes atento tu oído para juzgar al huérfano y al oprimido, a fin de que el hombre de la tierra no vuelva más a hacer violencia.


Este es uno de muchos salmos que vamos a leer donde el salmista hizo una declaración desesperada, como reclamando a Dios porqué no actúa rápido. Si leemos los primeros versos podríamos pensar que realmente el Señor lo abandonó, que estaba siendo injusto o impotente en socorrer a los que claman a Él, pero la realidad es que este salmo es un clamor de desahogo. Es como cuando un niño se desespera porque tiene hambre y no puede esperar a que la madre termine de cocinar para poder servirle. O como cuando el niño se impacienta porque los padres no llegan rápido a casa y piensa que lo abandonaron, cuando en realidad vienen de camino.

Esta es una oración muy humana, donde el salmista estaba siendo sincero con Dios de la forma en que se está sintiendo, desesperado al no ver la mano de Dios actuar en medio de las injusticias de los malignos. Él estaba desesperado e hizo una lista de todas las cosas malas que ellos hacían, menospreciando el Nombre de Dios y haciendo injusticias porque no eran temerosos del Señor.

Más adelante encontraremos versos donde el salmista tuvo una comprensión más clara y ha obtenido una madurez espiritual donde él mismo aconseja a no mirar cómo el malo próspera, pues a su tiempo Dios lo castigará por sus acciones malas, y que Dios siempre es fiel para con los que esperan en Él. Por ejemplo, vamos a leer varios salmos como referente a este dilema que es el Salmo 37, verso 7 al 9 y dice así: "Calla delante del SEÑOR y espera en él. No te alteres con motivo de los que prosperan en su camino, por el hombre que hace maldades. Deja la ira y abandona el enojo; de ninguna manera te apasiones por hacer lo malo. Porque los malhechores serán destruidos, pero los que esperan en el SEÑOR heredarán la tierra."

Por eso, al final de este salmo, el salmista reconoció que el Señor va actuar porque Él ha prometido ayudar al oprimido y al huérfano.
Espero que este salmo te acerque a ti y a tu familia al Señor y que puedas, con confianza, declararle tus miedos, tus temores y tus frustraciones para que asimismo llegues a la reflexión de que cuando nuestro Dios está en silencio, Él va a actuar poderosamente a su tiempo y tus propios ojos van a mirar cómo Dios hace justicia y te protegerá de aquellos que te quieren hacer el mal.

¿Has hecho alguna oración parecida a ésta donde demuestras tus frustraciones delante de Dios?
¿Piensas que es equivocado hablarle así al Señor?

September 25: Desperate prayer for justice.

Psalms 10:1-18:
Why do You stand afar off, O Lord? Why do You hide in times of trouble? The wicked in his pride persecutes the poor; let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.
For the wicked boasts of his heart’s desire; he blesses the greedy and renounces the Lord. The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts.
His ways are always prospering; Your judgments are far above, out of his sight; as for all his enemies, he sneers at them. He has said in his heart, “I shall not be moved; I shall never be in adversity.” His mouth is full of cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue is trouble and iniquity.
He sits in the lurking places of the villages; in the secret places he murders the innocent; his eyes are secretly fixed on the helpless. He lies in wait secretly, as a lion in his den; he lies in wait to catch the poor;
He catches the poor when he draws him into his net. So he crouches, he lies low, that the helpless may fall by his strength. He has said in his heart, “God has forgotten; He hides His face; He will never see.”
Arise, O Lord! O God, lift up Your hand! Do not forget the humble. Why do the wicked renounce God? He has said in his heart, “You will not require an account.”
But You have seen, for You observe trouble and grief, to repay it by Your hand. The helpless commits himself to You; You are the helper of the fatherless. Break the arm of the wicked and the evil man; seek out his wickedness until You find none.
The Lord is King forever and ever; the nations have perished out of His land. Lord, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will prepare their heart; You will cause Your ear to hear, to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may oppress no more.


This is one of the many psalms that we are going to read where the psalmist made a desperate statement, as claiming to God for not acting fast. If we read the first verses we might think that the Lord really abandoned him, that He was being unjust or impontent in helping those who cry out to Him, but the reality is that this psalm is a cry for relief. It is like when a child gets desperate because he is hungry and cannot wait for his mother to finish cooking before he can serve him. Or like when the child becomes impatient because the parents don't come home quickly and think that they abandoned him, when in fact they are on the way.

This is a very human prayer, where the psalmist was being sincere with God with the way he is feeling, desperate not to see the hand of God act in the midst of the injustices of the evildoers. He was desperate and made a list of all the bad things they did, despising the Name of God and doing injustices because they were not afraid of the Lord.

Later we will find verses where the psalmist had a clearer understanding and has obtained a spiritual maturity where he himself advises not to look at how the evil one prospers, because in due time God will punish him for his bad actions, and that God will always be faithful to those who hope in Him. For example, we are going to read several psalms as a reference to this dilemma which is Psalm 37, verse 7 to 9 and it says this: "Be silent before the LORD and wait for him. Because of those who prosper in their way, because of the man who does evil. Let go of anger and abandon anger; by no means be passionate about doing evil. For evildoers will be destroyed, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the Earth."

That is why, at the end of this psalm, the psalmist recognized that the Lord will act because He has promised to help the oppressed and the orphan.
I hope that this psalm brings you and your family closer to the Lord and that you can confidently declare your fears and your frustrations so that you also come to the reflection that when our God is silent, He will act powerfully in His time and your own eyes will look at how God does justice and will protect you from those who want to do you evil.
