In 1977, Burt Reynolds agreed to be in his roommate, stuntman Hal Needham's, directorial debut despite it being the worst script he had ever read. What resulted was a defining role for Reynolds and a sleeper hit for Needham finishing second that year only to Star Wars. Four years and four movies later, Needham and Reynolds teamed up for another defining role and star-studded mega hit, The Cannonball Run.
