Juliane Koepcke is a German-Peruvian woman known for her incredible survival story following a plane crash in the Amazon rainforest.

In December 1971, at the age of 17, Juliane was aboard LANSA Flight 508, a commercial airliner flying over the Peruvian rainforest. The plane was struck by lightning, disintegrating in mid-air. Juliane was one of the sole survivors of the crash, miraculously falling two miles to the ground still strapped to her seat.After the crash, Juliane was left disoriented and injured, with a broken collarbone and deep cuts on her arms and legs.

She began a 10-day journey through the dense, remote Amazon rainforest, surviving by drinking rainwater and eating what little food she could find.During her ordeal, she encountered various challenges, including insects, dangerous animals, and the constant threat of infection from her injuries. She eventually stumbled upon a small boat and sheltered there, where she was discovered by local fishermen who took her to a nearby village.

From there, she was rescued and taken to a hospital.Juliane's incredible story of survival and resilience made her a symbol of human endurance.

She went on to study biology and dedicated her life to the study and conservation of the rainforest, which had played such a significant role in her life. Her experience has been the subject of books, documentaries, and interviews, inspiring many with her remarkable tale of survival against all odds.
