“Game of Thrones” creators David Benioff and D.B. Weiss will no longer write or produce a trilogy of “Star Wars” movies, Variety has confirmed. The pair attributed the departure to their upcoming Netflix projects. “We love Star Wars. When George Lucas built it, he built us too,” they said in a statement. “Getting to talk about Star Wars with him and the current Star Wars team was the thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything. But there are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both Star Wars and our Netflix projects. So we are regretfully stepping away.” Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy remarked, “David Benioff and Dan Weiss are incredible storytellers. We hope to include them in the journey forward when they are able to step away from their busy schedule to focus on Star Wars.”

Ewan McGregor Says Years of Lying About Reprising ‘Star Wars’ Role Was ‘Embarrassing’

“It’s awkward because the studios and the franchises, they want to keep everything totally secret, of course, which I understand,” McGregor explained. “But as the person being asked over and over and over again, ‘Are you? Would you do it again, would you do it again?’ And I’m already talking to them about it, but I can’t say that I am. So like for four years I was saying, ‘Well, I’d be happy to do it again if they — I’m just waiting for the call’ … It was embarrassing.”
McGregor earlier said that the original plan was for a standard movie, but now the Kenobi series will be 6, 1 hour episodes.
