Malacoda brings a different approach to the heavy metal world. Taking the long way around, the band has experimented with different styles and subgenres within the heavy metal scene and emerged with a sense of style and urgency.

Their latest release, 'The Year Walk,' came out in late 2021 and it's a sweet 15-minute extended play confection. For a guy like me, Malacoda brings a distinct subtlety to the arrangement and one that resonates very, very well. Currently, the band finds itself a trio, and I was fortunate enough to meet both songwriter Lucas Di Mascio and bass player Zak Stulla for an hour long chat that went off on the exact tangents I enjoy. We had a conversation, not a question and answer panel discussion, and it was great fun.
