show more'The biggest thing is we went heavier again in a short sentence", he said of the album. "We decided on our last album to explore a bit of different stuff and pick up some tricks on songwriting but now we've gone a bit back to our roots with the new one and used all those new tricks we picked up along the way".
In the lead up to the release date, the band have released a statement saying they have re-found their love for heavy music, a statement Brown is happy to delve into further.
"Over the years we are all getting older and our musical taste is more eclectic", he began, "and we are all listening to different things and we were working with a producer who has had big success in a pop background. We had that period with the catchy type choruses and big hooks and we got caught up in it a bit but it's just as fun and a different type of challenge for us to write that type of song. We play some of those songs live and as much as we see it on someones face that they're into it we kind of missed people running around and moshing so we thought... we all miss that heavy vibe so that's our new found love to play heavy music again".
In the full interview, Dan goes into the new album in greater detail, talks about feeling obligated to fans to play a certain style of music, the title of the album and its content, the importance of having the right song to open an album, expectations following previous number one albums, their two-year cycle between albums, touring with Beartooth and more.
