What do you do when your relationship with your spouse has gone sour and you split apart? What happens if it causes you to become estranged from your children? How do you rebuild a relationship, even if you and your spouse are still on bad terms? How do you find a mediator to help bridge the gap? Our Wednesday Co-Hosts, relationship advisors Imam Karriem Hameed and sister Munirah Habeel, give suggestions on how to mend the damaged relationships between parents and children after a break up between parents. Couple #1 Jake and Lisa, have an 8 year old son. They lived together off and on during their stormy relationship, and finally decided to just end it. Jake suspects Lisa of infidelity during one of their breakups. They are now in the middle of a custody battle, in which Lisa is suing Jake for child support and Jake is demanding a DNA test to verify Jake is his. Since the break up, their son Jamal has been disruptive in school and has been crying for his father. Couple #2, Abdul and Jameela, got married after high school. Now in their late 20s, they have three children, but Jameela has filed for divorce. She said Abdul is abusive to her and the children, two daughters and a son, aged 9, 7 and 3. She is suing for child support, and he is refusing to pay because he said she doesn't allow him to visit the children. He says he took good care of them during the marriage and she should not have left. The children have been fighting each other and their classmates since she moved out of their home and in with her parents. She does not allow him to visit them.
