The Republicans, led by Donald Trump, keep complaining about cancel culture this and cancel culture that.
When pressure is on to remove statues honoring racists from the confederacy, Republican white supremicists cry cancel culture.
When QAnon Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene was stripped of her House committee assignments, Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan said it was all about “cancel culture.” I’m not sure what culture Jordan was saying was being cancelled, though, unless it was the QAnon and conspiracy theory culture, and if so, I say it should be cancelled!
As NPR wrote recently, “The phrase is so pervasive that it's arguably background noise in American politics now — just part of the wallpaper, a pair of words you might easily (or, depending on your feelings, happily) breeze past every day without paying it any attention.”
