On this episode of Vigilantes Radio Live, Coach Dini sits down with multi-genre vocalist, composer, songwriter, and multidisciplinary artist Kay Marion for a conversation about identity, artistry, courage, and refusing to be confined by genre.

Born in Memphis and shaped by a musical upbringing, Kay’s journey took a defining turn when she discovered the work of Marian Anderson at just eight years old. That moment opened her eyes to the connection between Black excellence and the classical tradition and helped shape the artist she would eventually become.

Today, Kay moves fluidly through classical music, neo-soul, R&B, jazz, pop, theatre, and composition while continuing to build a sound entirely her own.

Joined by The Neo-Symphony, Kay blends orchestral sophistication with the emotional depth of Black contemporary music, creating performances that challenge expectations while honoring the musical traditions that came before her.
The conversation also explores her companion projects Fire. and Water., two expressions of the same artist that reflect strength, vulnerability, contrast, and the belief that every part of who we are deserves room to exist and evolve.
Kay also looks ahead to her upcoming CAU Homecoming Brunch performance at City Winery Atlanta on October 18, 2026.

This is a conversation about becoming whole without becoming smaller.
