THE KYBALION - 4. THE ALL: The Infinite Living Mind Behind All Existence - Three Initiates (1908).

The William Walker Atkinson Podcast (under the pseudonym "Three Initiates") presents a high-quality, full audiobook narration of "The Kybalion: A Study of the Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient Egypt and Greece" (1908) — this episode dedicated to "Chapter 4: The All". In resonant, contemplative narration, the episode brings to life one of the book's most profound and metaphysical sections, exploring the ultimate Substantial Reality underlying all existence.
Following the practical introduction of Mental Transmutation in Chapter 3, Chapter 4 shifts to pure ontology: the nature of the infinite, unknowable source from which the universe emanates. It builds directly on the Principle of Mentalism ("The All is Mind; the Universe is Mental") by defining "The All" as the eternal, unchanging essence behind the flux of time, space, and change. This chapter grapples with paradoxes of infinity, creation, and human limitation, offering glimpses into the divine mind that holds reality.

Chapter 4: The All
The chapter opens with the axiom: “Under, and back of, the Universe of Time, Space and Change, is ever to be found The Substantial Reality—the Fundamental Truth.” — *The Kybalion*. It defines key terms: "Substance" as the underlying essence, the "thing in itself"; "Substantial" as actually existing and essential; "Reality" as true, enduring, and permanent.

Observing the universe, humanity sees only constant change—matter, forces, and mental states in perpetual flux. Nothing stands still; everything evolves, grows, decays, and resolves into other forms under the Law of Rhythm. Amid this impermanence, the mind intuitively seeks an underlying permanence—an unchanging Substantial Reality. This is self-evident, requiring no proof.
The authors adopt the Hermetic term "The All" for this Ultimate Reality, deeming it the most comprehensive label transcending human names (Deity, Infinite Energy, Infinite Spirit, etc.). The All is Infinite, Eternal, Absolute, Immutable, and Self-Existent. It must encompass **all** that really is—nothing exists outside or beyond It, for that would imply limitation.

The All is **Living Mind**—Infinite, Eternal, and far beyond finite human conceptions of life and mind. It is Spirit in its highest sense, the source of all manifestation. The chapter distinguishes this from anthropomorphic gods: The All is not a personal deity with human-like emotions or limitations but an Infinite Living Mind, the womb of universes.

A key question arises: Why does The All create universes? The Hermetists answer that creation is not from necessity or lack but from **Infinite Desire**—the urge to express, to know Itself through manifestation. Creation is mental: The All thinks universes into being within Its own Infinite Mind, just as humans create mental worlds in thought. "The Infinite Mind of The All is the Womb of Universes."

The chapter addresses paradoxes: If The All is Infinite, how can finite minds comprehend It? Human reason reaches limits here. The All is unknowable in essence—beyond attributes, qualities, or predicates. Yet, through reports of the Illumined (mystics on higher planes) and deductive reasoning, we glimpse truths: The All must be all that really is; It is Infinite (eternal, boundless); It is Living Mind/Spirit.

The All creates freely, without cause or compulsion—It is above Law, as Law emerges from It. Finite minds cannot fully grasp this Divine Freedom, but understanding brings profound insight: the universe is a mental creation within The All, held in Its Infinite Consciousness.
This chapter reconciles apparent contradictions under the Law of Paradox. It warns against dogmatic assertions about The All's nature, urging humility before the Infinite. True knowledge comes not from intellectual dissection but from inner realization—aligning one's mind with the universal mind.

Context in the Book
Chapter 4 deepens Mentalism, preparing for Chapter 5 (The Mental Universe) and Chapter 6 (The Divine Paradox). It positions The All as the source of the Seven Principles, the unchanging ground from which change arises. Mastery begins with recognizing one's place within this Infinite Mind.
This episode captivates seekers of metaphysics, non-dual philosophy, spiritual ontology, New Thought, manifestation roots, and esoteric theology. The narration's measured pace invites deep reflection on infinity, mind, and reality's essence.

Whether during quiet contemplation, study, or daily integration, listeners connect with ancient wisdom that views the cosmos as a divine mental expression—empowering alignment with The All through conscious thought.
