Story Transcript:

En: The sun rays penetrated through the low clouds and illuminated the narrow, bustling fish market in Bergen.

En: It was there that we meet Lars, a man with a simple wish for a large, fresh salmon.

En: He stood in front of a fish stall, curious about the price of the big shimmering fish laid out before him.

En: "Sorry, but this is a bit expensive for me," Lars said to the attendant, a man with rough hands, rosy cheeks, and a wide smile.

En: The attendant chuckled briefly, "Well, everyone wants salmon, but no one wants to pay the price."

En: Lars scratched his head, he really wanted that fish.

En: Suddenly, in a moment of inspiration, he said, "What if I can make you laugh with a joke?

En: Would you give me a little discount then?"

En: The attendant looked surprised at him, but then nodded.

En: "I appreciate a good laugh, so why not?

Nb: Gi det et skudd.
En: Give it a shot."

En: Lars could hardly contain the smile spreading across his face.

En: "What do you call a fish without eyes?"

Nb: ", spurte han.
En: he asked.

Nb: Ekspeditøren rynket øyenbrynene, tenkte dypt før han gav opp.
En: The attendant furrowed his eyebrows, pondered deeply before giving up.

Nb: "Jeg aner ikke, hva da?
En: "I don't know, what?"

En: Lars couldn't help but widen his smile.

Nb: "Fsh!
En: "Fsh!"

Nb: ", utbrøt han.
En: he exclaimed.

Nb: Et øyeblikks stillhet fulgte, og deretter brøt ekspeditøren ut i hjertelig latter.
En: A moment of silence followed, and then the attendant burst into hearty laughter.

En: The whole fish market stared at the two of them laughing heartily amidst a sea of busy customers, the smell of fish, and the sound of seagulls circling above their heads.

En: Shortly after, the attendant waved him over.

Nb: "Bare for den vitsen, Lars.
En: "Just for that joke, Lars.

Nb: Her får du en rabatt på laksen.
En: Here, you'll get a discount on the salmon."

En: And so it was that Lars went home with the fish he had desired, for a slightly reduced price, and with a good laugh to remember.

En: It was a bright day filled with laughter at the fish market in Bergen, a day when everyone learned that humor has value, even in places where it is least expected.
