The Name of the LORD is a fortified strong tower; the righteous man, the one who is upright and in right standing with God through the Blood of Jesus Christ. runs into it and is safe, high [above evil] and strong. (Proverbs 18:10)

Yahweh is the Name of the LORD, The name Yahweh occurs more than 6,800 times in the Old Testament.

Yahweh or LORD is the sacred, personal name of Israel’s God, it was eventually spoken aloud only by priests worshiping in the Jerusalem temple.

Yahweh is the name that is most closely linked to God’s redeeming acts in the history of his chosen people. We know God because of what he has done. When you pray to Yahweh, remember that He is the same God who draws near to save you from the tyranny of sin just as he saved his people from tyrannical slavery in Egypt.

The meaning of Yahweh in God’s mysterious self-description of Himself in Exodus 3: 14, “IAM WHO IAM,” conveys the sense that God is self-existent and that He is always present with you.

Yahweh is the God who is always near, intervening in history on behalf of his people and today intervening on you behalf.

The knowledge of God’s proper name Yahweh LORD implies you are in a covenant relationship with Him. For God’s covenant name is closely associated with His saving acts in Exodus. The name Yahweh evokes images of God’s saving power in the lives of his people and you.

When you pray to Yahweh, you are praying to the God who sees the situation beforehand. Just as Jesus said in Matthew 6:8, For your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him. (Matthew 6:8)

Then Jesus reveals this secret “I and My Father are one.”
(John 10:30)

Key Scripture

God said to Moses, “IAM WHO IAM. This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The LORD [Yahweh], the God of your fathers —the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.” (Exodus 3:14-15)

Jesus said: Concerning the resurrection of the dead, have you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying, I am the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? He is not the God of the dead but of the living! (Exod. 3:6)
Matthew 22:31-32

Just as Yahweh is God’s personal name revealed in the Old Testament, Jesus is the personal name of the one we call Redeemer, LORD, and Christ. His name is intimately linked to the God of the Hebrew Scriptures because it means “Yahweh Is Salvation.”

Indeed, Jesus is Yahweh come to earth, bending toward us, God becoming one of us, God reaching out in mercy, God humbling himself, God nailed to a cross, God rising up from the grave to show us the way home. Jesus, name above all names, beautiful Savior, glorious Lord!

The Name Jesus or Yeshua contains Yahweh, the covenant name of God, a name so sacred it was considered too holy to pronounce. Jesus mean “Yahweh Is Help” or “Yahweh Is Salvation.” Yeshua is also related to the word yeshu’ah, which means “salvation.”

Through the centuries, the church has affirmed the belief of the earliest followers of Jesus that “salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name given under heaven by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).

The Name of the LORD is your strong tower,.... the attributes and perfections of God, by which He is made known, and which are the strength and security of His children; His Goodness, Grace, and Mercy, are their defence; Hebrews 4:16

His Favor encompasses us about, as a shield; His justice protects us from all injuries and insults; His truth and faithfulness preserve us; we are kept by His power, as in a safe fort; and His unchangeableness is a reason why we are not consumed:

His name is our Protection.
THE LORD answers you in the day of trouble! His Name of sets you up on high and defend you. (Psalm 20:1)

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my Refuge and my Fortress, my God in whom I trust.” (Psalm 91:1-2)

God Reveals His Name in Scripture

The Old Testament scriptures reveal a God who dwells with his people —first in a tent in the wilderness and then in the Jerusalem temple.

The New Testament reveals God’s dwelling place on earth is not merely with his people but within His children. Jesus said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation; nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.””
‭‭Luke‬ ‭17:20-21‬ ‬

You are the temple of God and the Spirit of God dwells in you! ‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭3:16‬ ‬

Prayer:

O LORD, I Thank You for being our fortified strong tower, my God; on You do I lean and rely, and in You I confidently Trust! For you empower us through our Union with You; we draw our strength from You, which Your boundless might provides. (‭‭Psalm‬ ‭91:2, ‬‬Ephesians ‭6:10‬)
