Fentanyl is often mixed with other drugs like heroin or cocaine, increasing their potency and profitability. The cartel is believed to have established large-scale fentanyl production labs in Mexico, with the raw materials imported from China. The finished product is smuggled into the United States, where it has contributed to the ongoing opioid crisis.
