show moreAustralian thrash outfit Deprivation have had a year to remember.
Earlier this year the band edged out a strong heat of finalists to win the Australian Wacken Battle Of The Bands competition which had as its first place the opportunity to grace the stage at the prestigious Wacken 2023 in Germany.
It was the crowning achievement for a band with over 15 years of servitude to the Australian heavy metal industry and just rewards for an unwavering passion and commitment to the scene.
HEAVY recently sat down with lead guitarist Lachlan and bass player Jesse to find out more, starting with if their feet had managed to touch the ground a couple of months after the event.
"Yeah, it's been a while now," Lachlan answered. "But it took a bit to get off that high for sure."
"We were all a bit grumpy when we got back," Jesse added, laughing.
We ask the boys to think back to the final in May and tell us if they thought they had done enough on the night to win.
"I, personally reckon we absolutely killed it on the final," Jesse nodded, "but there was some fantastic competition. There was that whole what's gonna happen thing, and we all put on our A game, and obviously it worked out well for us. It was a very tight competition."
"We definitely played as good as we've ever played that night," Lachlan added. "So there was no reason not to think we didn't put our best effort in."
In the full interview, Lachlan and Jesse run us through getting the call to tell them they had won, how they raised the money to get to Germany, how they were treated by other bands, the wet weather that plagued Wacken this year and what it meant for them, the 'bonus' international Battle Of The Bands where they came tenth, playing on the main stage, the actual set and how they felt, what they took from the experience, the live video for Burn recorded at Wacken, new music and more.
