KXL recently asked Andrew Sternke to come on the air 🎙 in Portland, OR to discuss the recent cyber espionage operation launched by the Chinese government against the United States. Andrew, a cybersecurity specialist who works with five nation intelligence agencies called five eyes, pointed out that "this threat could definitely cripple critical infrastructure." Recent warnings from the US Department of State advised people to remain vigilant because of the Volt Typhoon espionage group, which is being backed by the Chinese government.
During the interview, Andrew pointed out that if these attacks occur on oil pipelines, rail, and even waste disposal systems, it could have devastating effects on the economy, leading to higher gas prices and higher prices at the store. He stressed the need for individuals to use two-factor authentication, password managers, and basic cybersecurity practices to avoid falling victim to such attacks. Andrew revealed that cyber espionage is usually done through specific computer systems or social engineering to infiltrate individuals associated with specific corporations or government entities.
Andrew Sternke works at Dark Box Security, a cybersecurity firm that provides services in both the government and corporate sectors. The interview concluded with a warning to the general public to remain vigilant about cybersecurity practices. #cybersecurity #cyberattack #cyberespionage #china #VoltTyphoon
