Of course, everyone has their horror stories from COVID but imagine for one minute being in a band that has released a multitude of singles to go along with an...
show moreSound fucked up?
Just ask rock outfit East York and they will reply with an emphatic yes!
Formed from the nucleus of existing bands including Mammal and Logic Defies Logic, East York burst onto the scene with Outsiders in October 2020, promising the world and delivering in style.
Circus, Damned Anthem and To Kill The Sun steadily followed before the band released their debut EP Origins, but every time East York scheduled a show to deliver their live product into the world some form of complication arose that left them stranded.
Now, some two years after their inception, East York are finally set to take the stage for s run of shows in New Zealand starting on September 1, with vocalist Tarquin Keys joining HEAVY to talk about finally getting on stage.
"Finally! After two years of false starts,” he laughed. “We've organised it three times so far (laughs) but we've finally been given the okay by the governments that be and we're going over to do our first show - which is our first show ever, and first time playing together, which is gonna be a weird experience. Luckily, we've been in a room together, so we know that we like each other (laughs). The first one's at me and Dazza's home town in a place called Mount Manganui in New Zealand and that's just our own show with a band called Black Comet, which is a band from New Zealand called Kora, a very established kind of dynasty really. It's the lead singer of Kora's new band so I'm really excited to see them and another band called Bones Inc. And then we're hitting the road with Coridian, which is some brothers that Daz grew up. So that's our plan."
In the full interview, Tarquin talks about the frustrations of not being able to play live, what to expect from the shows, debuting in front of their home fans, the EP and what they were going for with it, future new music, the possibility of an Australian tour and more.
