The US Justice Department will review the law enforcement response to the shooting in Uvalde, Texas, that left 19 school children and two teachers dead, as President Joe Biden and his wife Jill Biden met families who lost loved ones in America’s worst school shooting in nearly a decade.
The review comes amid mounting pressure and questions about the shifting and at times contradictory, information about what happened at Robb Elementary School.
Justice Department spokesman Anthony Coley says that the review would be conducted in a fair, impartial and independent manner and that the findings would be made public.
Coley says the goal of the review is to provide an independent account of law enforcement actions and responses that day and to identify lessons learned and best practices to help first responders prepare for and respond to active shooter events.
