Hi, Hot Topics Lovers; In this episode, I shared my opinion based on the CEO and recording Academy statements on how GRAMMYs pick their winners. I also shared my reasons for why Nigerian artists should boycott the GRAMMYs and why Nigerians should focus on creating and restructuring their awards.
The 66th GRAMMYs happened at the Crypto.com Arena, Los Angeles, on Sunday, February 4, 2024.
As expected, GRAMMYs came with a lot of surprises and awkwardness, with eight Nigerian artists—Davido, Burna Boy, Asake, Olamide, Ayra Starr, Ckay, Fireboy DML, and Tems—all losing out on their combined ten nominations across different award categories.
Speaking on how GRAMMYs winners are picked, the Recording Academy CEO said, Grammy Awards are "won" purely based on the viewpoints of the board members of the Recording Academy, which could sometimes be "subjective.” He added that these voters do not care about a singer’s huge sales, streams, and fan base but pick winners purely based on the “quality of their art.”
