2 FEB 2019 · In S2E2, the cast of 21Mil&Rising continues our discussion of Asians and Asian Americans in the media, picking up where we left off last season. So much has happened since then: Crazy Rich Asians came out over the summer, making history and making waves, and shows like Kim's Convenience and The Good Place are breaking new ground. In this episode, we discuss the importance of representation, the sting of stereotypes, how far we've come, and what we'd like to see more of in the media.
1 NOV 2018 · In our first episode of Season 2, the cast of 21Mil & Rising talks about affinity groups, what they're all about, why we need them, and how they can help a person "become more me" by fostering a sense of cultural pride and community.
7 JUN 2018 · In this episode, 21Mil&Rising and #BLKGRLMAGIC team up for the first time to discuss the global impact of colorism, defined as “prejudice or discrimination against individuals with a dark skin tone, typically among people of the same ethnic or racial group.” We discuss our experiences with color prejudice, pressures to avoid the sun and “not get dark”, representation of light and dark skin in the media, and finally, how to love the skin you’re in and how the internet can also be a source of positivity and affirmation.
16 MAY 2018 · In this episode, we talk about Asian Americans in the media--the images that make us cringe, the ones that makes us proud and give us hope, how far we've come and how far we have to go.
