16 JAN 2026 · Join Jim and Greg for the Friday 3 Martini Lunch as they close out the week examining new polling across the Western Hemisphere showing overwhelming approval for the removal of Venezuela’s Nicolás Maduro, California Gov. Gavin Newsom's obscene levels of spending with mostly failure to show for it, and Virginia Democrats taking power and immediately advancing their radical agenda.
First, they welcome polling from throughout Latin America showing broad support for Maduro being ousted from power. In some places, the margin is more than 60 percent and even Mexico, which had the lowest approval for Maduro's ouster, still approved by 12 percent. But the big question about Venezuela remains - what comes next?
Next, they shake their heads as Gov. Newsom submits a nearly $350 billion budget for his final year in office, a massive increase from when he first took office. Jim lists many different economic categories in which California ranks among the worst states despite having so many natural advantages.
Finally, Jim and Greg cringe as Virginia Democrats open their legislative session by pushing the radical agenda many feared was coming. At the top of the list is a constitutional amendment to enshrine abortion with no exceptions. They also thank outgoing Gov. Glenn Youngkin for four years of relative sanity before he leaves office tomorrow and the onslaught of awful legislation ramps up.

First, they're concerned as President Trump seems to accept the word of Iran or its intermediaries that the regime is no longer killing people in the streets or planning to carry out executions. Is there any evidence this is true? After promising the Iranian protesters that "help is on the way," has Trump changed his mind or the Iranian mullahs in for a surprise?
Next, they document more unhinged violence against federal agents in Minneapolis, where an ICE agent was attacked by an illegal immigrant and others who joined the fight, and a mob ripped a gun case out of a federal vehicle. Meanwhile, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz continues to demonize ICE, further inflaming an already volatile situation.
Then, they marvel as an OBGYN at a U.S. Senate hearing repeatedly refuses to answer whether men can get pregnant, hiding behind identity politics instead of stating basic biological facts.
Finally, as longtime fans of the TV show 24, Jim and Greg briefly react to the recent arrest of series star Kiefer Sutherland and the details surrounding the incident.

First, they zero in on an ACLU lawyer who failed to define “girl,” “woman,” “man,” or “boy” when questioned by Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito during oral arguments over whether boys should be allowed to play girls' sports if they identify as girls. Jim says laws need to be precise and the left's arguments are always ambiguous and shifting.
Next, Jim and Greg shake their heads at Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s office refusing to assist the Macomb County clerk in removing non-citizens from the voter rolls. Jim leans on some epic 90's references to explain just how derelict Benson's office is on this issue.
Finally, they’re intrigued by new reports indicating the U.S. government may have identified the cause of Havana Syndrome, the mysterious and debilitating condition suffered by top U.S. military and intelligence officials in Cuba, China, the U.S. and other places around the world. And is it possible we used this same technology on the mission in Venezuela?

Jim and Greg highlight testimony detailing how whistleblowers inside state government were pressured and intimidated in an effort to prevent the truth from emerging.
Next, they reject President Trump's call for congressional Republicans to have flexibility on the Hyde Amendment as part of extending the Covid-era Obamacare subsidies. The Hyde Amendment forbids taxpayer dollars to be used to pay for abortions. Jim says flexibility is not even a practical option on this issue and Greg wants to know why Trump is asking the GOP to surrender any ground on this issue when its already making a huge concession.
