4 FEB 2026 · Legendary director Renny Harlin joins us to talk all things The Strangers: Chapter 3, the brutal conclusion to his ambitious new trilogy.
We dig into the film’s striking, almost poetic cinematography, the creative gamble of remaking and expanding one of horror’s most uncompromising IPs, and the bold choices that led to a truly shocking trilogy ending.
Renny also opens up about the massive 3+ hour re-edit cut of the films, how the trilogy was designed to function as one long nightmare, and whether there’s still more blood left to spill in The Strangers universe.
A fascinating, candid conversation about fear, franchise storytelling, and pushing modern horror further into the dark.

29 JAN 2026 · After the unexpected success of Silent Hill (2006), a sequel felt inevitable, but the road to Silent Hill: Revelation was anything but straightforward.
In this episode of ClassHorrorCast, we revisit Silent Hill: Revelation and dig into the original plans for a very different sequel, the unfortunate circumstances that derailed them, and how multiple ideas were ultimately stitched together to bring the film we got to life.
We explore how the movie pulls from Silent Hill 3 while also reshaping and retconning elements of the first film - changes that proved controversial with longtime fans of both the games and the 2006 adaptation.
We break down the film’s heavy use of CGI and 3D, looking at it as a product of its time and how those choices often overshadow some genuinely strong practical effects and creature work happening beneath the digital layers.
From its shift toward a more action-driven approach to its reworking of lore, characters, and tone, we talk about what didn’t land and what might have worked better with a different creative focus. But Revelation isn’t without its strengths. We highlight the creatures, locations, and visual ideas that do feel authentically Silent Hill, and discuss the moments where the film briefly reconnects with the atmosphere and imagery that made the series so powerful in the first place.
Beneath the noise, the spectacle, and the missteps, there’s the framework of a solid little horror sequel trying to break through.
Silent Hill: Revelation may never capture the slow, oppressive dread of its source material, but it remains a fascinating case study in adaptation, expectation, and how easily atmosphere can be lost in the pursuit of scale.

22 JAN 2026 · Few video game adaptations truly understand the source material — Silent Hill (2006) is one of the rare exceptions.
This week on ClassHorrorCast, we descend into the fog to explore why Christophe Gans’ Silent Hill has not only endured, but evolved into the gold standard for video game horror adaptations.
We break down the film’s deep lore, hidden meanings, and symbolic imagery, unpacking how the movie translates the unsettling psychology and atmosphere of the games to the big screen.
We dig into the film’s pre-production, the writing process, and the major creative choices that reshaped the games’ narrative for cinema including what was changed, what was preserved, and why those decisions ultimately worked.
From its commitment to practical effects and creature design to its oppressive soundscape and world-building, we examine how Silent Hill achieved an authenticity most adaptations never attempt. Finally, we discuss why the film has aged so well, how its reputation has grown over time, and why it continues to be cited as the strongest argument for the greatest video game adaptation of all time.
Turn up the volume. The siren is calling.

26 DEC 2025 · In this episode, we unwrap one of the most infamous slashers of the 1980s — Silent Night, Deadly Night (1984) — a film that didn’t just shock audiences, but ignited a full-blown moral panic.
We dig into the movie itself, from its mean-spirited kills and sleazy holiday setting to its strange, unforgettable characters and grim worldview.
We break down what works, what’s unhinged, and why — despite (or because of) its rough edges — it remains one of the most effective and enduring Christmas horror films ever made.
Beyond the bloodshed, we explore the wild behind-the-scenes story: how the film was made, marketed, and almost destroyed by controversy.
We talk about the infamous TV trailer that aired before family-friendly shows like Little House on the Prairie, why parents were outraged at the idea of Santa Claus as a slasher villain, and how protest groups successfully pressured theatres to pull the film from release just days after it opened.
We also place Silent Night, Deadly Night within the wider context of the Video Nasties era, examining how fear-driven censorship, tabloid hysteria, and home video panic shaped the movie’s legacy — and how later VHS, DVD, and Blu-ray releases helped reclaim it as a cult classic rather than a cultural punching bag.
Finally, we make the case for why Silent Night, Deadly Night has stood the test of time: its bleak tone, its commitment to being genuinely uncomfortable. Love it or hate it, this is a movie that refused to behave — and that’s exactly why it still matters.
Whether you’re a long-time defender or a first-time viewer, this episode dives deep into the film that turned Santa into a symbol of terror — and became horror’s most notorious Christmas movie in the process.

We also dive into the differences between working on original stories versus established IP, and why writing the films he directs is such an important part of maintaining a clear creative voice.
