Jason Stastny, then an officer with the Kaufman Police Department, was responding to a theft just a few blocks away and rushed to assist after hearing two gunshots followed by three more. Mark was pronounced dead at the scene, having been shot multiple times, including in the face. Police confirmed that the gunman used a revolver.
