26 SEP 2024 · Good things come to those that wait, right? In this episode, Janey talks about the challenges of waiting in the garden and discusses the importance of delayed gratification, not only in gardening, but in life!
You can’t rush Mother Nature and trying will only lead to frustration. Gardening is a practice in patience, a practice in mindfulness and Janey talks how the garden can teach us to slow down and appreciate all stages of your garden’s lifecycle. The garden can be a powerful teacher and Janey encourages you to find the beauty in each stage of the journey.
So whether you're starting from seed or nurturing young plants, this episode is a reminder to slow down, enjoy the process, and trust that everything grows in its own time. After all, that’s what gardening is all about!

They chat about Heather’s background including what led her to become a Master Gardener and her work as the midwest field editor for Better Homes and Gardens. Hear them discuss “season extending perennials”, Heather’s plans for her fall garden and the fall gardening tasks she will be tackling in her zone 5b/6a garden.
Heather has been gardening from a small suburban Chicago lot for over 20 years. She has written, photographed, styled and produced garden content for Better Homes and Gardens magazines and many more regional and national publications. But mostly as Heather says, “ I love sharing my experiences in the garden, good and bad, on my blog and social media channels. From flowers to veg and everything in between, there's nothing I won't try to grow in my cold climate!”

Rafael and his partner, John Martin, are self-described opposites, but together they purchased the property 15 years ago. Since then, Park Winters has evolved tremendously, thanks to Rafael’s creativity and John’s expertise in hospitality management.

Sam’s love for gardening started early - he’d sneak out to visit the local garden center and would read every horticulture book he could get his hands on cover-to-cover. At 14, when he wasn’t hired at his local garden center because they doubted his expertise, Sam just started helping customers on his own! Tune in to hear how it all worked out and how his love of gardening continued to shape his future career and the creation of Bleume.

They talk about using this method specifically in garden beds - worms are surprisingly smart and giving them space allows them to move to the conditions they need to survive, thrive and give your garden incredible benefits, like improving soil texture, structure and aeration, increasing nutrients and more! Worm castings (worm poop) also contribute to faster plant growth and can prevent plant disease.
