2 JUL 2024 · This week on the Exciting & New Podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Mike back on the show as we discuss the 1984 Sci-fi borefest Star Trek 3 - The Search for Spock.  Everyone who knows anything knows the odd numbered Trek movies ain't that great, and Part 3 is no exception.  It's not terrible, but nothing really happens either.  Dr. Brown is brought along on this mission as the big bad Klingon, and Kirstie Allen couldn't bother to come back as Savak, so they had to recast.  Anyway, all this is to say that something happened during the recording of this podcast and the last half of the show got cut off.  Production issues are nothing new (or exciting) to this podcast, but we are all kind of getting sick of it.  Maybe it is time to fire the current producer and bring on someone better.  Enjoy what you can of this podcast.  The summer of sex starts next week with Bachelor Party and we come out of the gates strong.

26 JUN 2024 · This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Doug on for the first time as we all discuss the 1984 action war movie Red Dawn.  In this sequel to the Outsiders, Pony Boy and his brother Darry take up arms against those dastardly Ruskies (and some assorted Cubans and Nicaraguans) as World War 3 is fought on American soil.   Does it make sense that the Russians invaded the middle of America?  No.   Does it make sense that a bunch of kids with hunting rifles outflank the Russian army for over a year?  No.  Does it make sense that Jed announced his presence allowing the Russian to shoot him before he unloaded into that commie?  No.  But did we have fun discussing this awesome Brat Pack-adjacent movie?  Heck yes we did.   WOLVERINES!!!  Enjoy the podcast.

19 JUN 2024 · This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana are joined for the first time, but hopefully not the last time, by Andy's oldest, Daniel.  He felt it was about time he got off the couch and got into the hot seat as we discuss the 1984 crime, mob-adjacent drama, The Pope of Greenwich Village.  Mickey Rourke, still young and in all his hottness, is led astray by his dim-witted cousin Eric Roberts as they rip off a local mob boss and have to pay the price.  The price?   THEY TOOK MY THUMB, CHARLIE!!   Eric Robert's acting is over the top in the movie.  Almost to the point that this movie becomes a comedy.  Is it supposed to be funny?  We all laughed.  Anyway, this was an interesting movie to initiate Daniel on and we hope we didnt frighten him off.  Enjoy the pod.

12 JUN 2024 · This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Connor back on to the show as we discuss the 1984 Eddie Murphy-starring vehicle, Beverly Hills Cop.  With a new Netflix movie dropping soon we felt it was time to jump on the bandwagon and grab some clicks by people who mistook this for the new movie.  I feel like this is happening a lot these days (see our Dune and Ghostbusters podcasts).  Anyway, Detroit cop Axel Foley comes to Beverly Hills to investigate his friend's murder and there are tons of laughs along the way (as there would be after your friend is shot in front of you).  This is Eddie’s first solo starring movie, and he is at his peak.  There are a couple brief glimpses of some other up and coming comedians as well.   Plus, a Close Talker and a 80's Villian mainstay.  Oh, and a woman gets a few speaking lines in this one as well.  How progressive?  Enjoy the movie and enjoy the podcast.

5 JUN 2024 · This week on the Exciting & New podcast, Jason, Andy and Dana welcome Bryan back on the show, and he brought his spawn Riley along, as we enjoy a double Mac attack and dive headfirst into the 1984 AH-NOLD sci-fi horror extravaganza, The Terminator.   This is the movie that turned Arnold into a star and brought us the line we still quote to this day, “Fuck you, asshole”.  Or was it “I’ll be back”?  Well, it was one of those quotes.  We were all super excited to discuss this movie and it was great to hear from the younger generation as Riley gives us his 2 cents regarding this classic.  Except for a few wonky special effects shots, this movie holds up like a champ.  You know Arnold and Linda will be back for the amazing sequel.  And then will keep coming back for crappier sequels (woof).    We suggest you watch this movie and Part 2 (Judgement Day) and then listen to the podcast.  And never watch another Terminator movie.  Enjoy the pod!
