31 OCT 2026 · Happy Halloween! We hope it's a scary one! Speaking of scary, apparently CLOWNS are the scariest things of all, since we find ourselves surrounded by the smell of greasepaint once again! We start off with "https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/1701237853826324594" from 1987 and follow that up with "https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/1701237853826324594" from 1988. Funland is more of a wacky comedy with dark moments provided by mascot "Bruce Burger" played by https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/1701237853826324594 himself, https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/1701237853826324594. It's genuinely funny but has moments of off-color humor that was common back in the 80s. Out of the Dark is more of a traditional thriller, with a "who-done-it" structure and plenty of characters to throw the viewer off the scent. It's good, and Bobo the clown succeeds at being REALLY creepy. Send us your thoughts on the show and recommendations for future episodes to flickersfrom@yahoo.com or flickersfrom@gmail.com. 11 OCT 2026 · When you watch the broad range of movies that are featured in the cave, you're going to sometimes run into a random turd. We were hit squarely in the face by two of them this time, but we still managed to enjoy our time with films, and also in our discussion of all the little ways the movies were successful. We start with 1988's "https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/1234736826372212522" and follow it with 1992's "https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/1234736826372212522". Dead of Night a.k.a. Mirror of Death, deals with magic candles, mirrors and chanting. Our lead character is possessed and her sister has to find a way to fix things. The version on Tubi has some of the worst sound-mixing of all time, so be sure to turn on the subtitles if you want to give it a try. Crystal Force stars the adult film superstar https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/1234736826372212522 as a woman who finds herself with a possessed crystal that unleashes a full-blown demon on her group of friends. It has plenty of nudity and some very silly moments, and it falls squarely into that "so bad it's good" category. It is also available currently on Tubi if you want to watch. 13 SEP 2026 · 1977 was apparently a big year for revenge at the cinema! We look at two films from that year that don't pull any punches in serving up some icy-cold vengeance! We start off with "https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/5156790916103061971", the only directorial effort from https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/5156790916103061971, who primarily worked as an editor. A soldier, played by https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/5156790916103061971 returns home from World War 2 to find his family farm in disrepair and about to be foreclosed upon. After getting involved with the local criminal underworld as a way to pay off his debts, he ends up on a personal path of revenge that sees many people be assaulted and die. We follow that with the legendary "https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/5156790916103061971" from director https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/5156790916103061971 and co-written by none-other than https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/5156790916103061971! This one also sees a soldier returning home from war, but this time it's https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/5156790916103061971 coming home from Vietnam where had been a prisoner of war for years. His wife has moved on and found a new man, his son doesn't even remember him, and he is targeted by a local gang that attacks him and his family in a shockingly violent scene. This sets him on a violent path and leaves many many bodies in his wake. These are both starkly told stories with stoic leading men with almost nothing joyful in either. If you enjoy these types of stories, these are two excellent choices! Send us your thoughts on the show and recommendations for future episodes to flickersfrom@yahoo.com or flickersfrom@gmail.com. 9 AUG 2026 · There's some real head-banging in the cave this time as we look at two fun little low-budget indies that focus on the evil side of rock and roll! We start off with 2019's "https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/7295547348722312542" from director https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/7295547348722312542. It's a blend of many stories you've seen before, wrapped up in a big bow with a transformed priest who begins murdering all the metalheads he can find. It's got some fun moments throughout and is quite an acheivement when you consider the conditions it was produced in. We follow that with 2017's "https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/7295547348722312542" which REALLY knocks it out of the park! Directed by https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/7295547348722312542, whose filmography is packed with a lot of special effects makeup jobs, it is a full-speed-ahead gorefest where a heavy metal band accidentaly unleashes a zombie apocalypse and then tries to undo the damage. This one is a blast and we highly recommend it! Both movies are available for free through Tubi, so go check'em out! 21 JUN 2026 · For our annual Pride-month episode, we are looking at two films that combine classic horror tropes along with LGBTQ+ themes. We start off with "https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/2726867289290653485" from 2019, a vampire movie with a trans lead and a troupe of feminist vampires waging a war against the douchey men of Los Angeles. It's a fun film with a strong political component that serves as a strong underpinning of the rest of the action. We follow that with the EXCELLENT zombie-comedy "https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/2726867289290653485" from 2025. It's directed by https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/2726867289290653485, daughter of https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/2726867289290653485 who basically created the modern zombie film. This is a truly outstanding bit of work. Very funny, with great performances from an incredible cast, it focuses on a wild night in New York when the dead are suddenly roaming the streets. This movie gets everything right and left us all eagerly anticipating Tina Romero's next film! 31 MAY 2026 · After a career filled with punching and kicking, https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/4719918589175550732 finally was taken down. We celebrate his career, while still remembering that he was not a perfect person, and that his politics were regretably FAR removed from our own. Still though, he brought us a lot of entertainment over the years, and at least one of the movies we chose for the podcast reminded us of just how entertaining he COULD be in the hands of the right director. We start off with the disappointing "https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/4719918589175550732" from 1986. In an attempt to cash in on the success of movies like "https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/4719918589175550732" they team Chuck up with the legendary https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/4719918589175550732 and https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/4719918589175550732. Despite his long career of true masterpieces, director https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/4719918589175550732 was probably NOT the right choice for this one. There were highlights but the movie relied on humor that largely fell flat and a budget that was insufficient to sell the idea of globetrotting adventurers. Our second movie REALLY blew us away, 1991's "https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/4719918589175550732" directed by his brother https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/4719918589175550732. This is a rough mob story with a standout performance by https://www.blogger.com/blog/post/edit/7835682253386019351/4719918589175550732 as the villain. By turns violent and then funny, with moments of humanity included for good measure, this is a real winner!
