In one of Charles Dickens’ most cherished tales, we follow the journey of Philip Pirrip, affectionately known as “Pip,” as he reflects on his life from the vantage point of fifty years. Orphaned at a young age, Pip is raised by his strict older sister and her kind-hearted husband, Joe. At just seven years old, while exploring the marshes, he encounters an escaped convict and makes the brave decision to help him by stealing food from home, a choice that leads to unexpected consequences. Soon, Pip is drawn into the enigmatic world of Miss Havisham, a wealthy recluse who invites him to play with the beautiful yet haughty Estella. Despite his humble beginnings and feelings of inadequacy, Pip dreams of a grander life—one filled with wealth, education, and love. When a mysterious benefactor enables him to become a gentleman in London, Pip is elated, believing it to be Miss Havisham’s doing. However, as he embraces his new lifestyle, he discovers that wealth does not guarantee happiness, especially when Estella remains unattainable and his past begins to haunt him. As Pip navigates the complexities of society, he must confront his choices and the true nature of his aspirations. (Summary by Mil Nicholson)
