In June 2020, at the height of the Covid Pandemic, I interviewed 20 heartbeats to share their passion and perseverance working in Hospitality.
With every heartbeat, I asked them 5 questions:
1) Who are they and what do they do?
2) How did their hospitality career start?
3) What was their most memorable incident encountered (good or bad)?
4) If they could keep and change one thing about the industry, what would it be?
5) What is their core value?
It was the most heartwarming experience hearing from all walks of hospitality life and all over the world coming in and stand in camaraderie.

27 SEP 2020 · Mish is an Accomodation a manager for AIRBNB listings in Ontario, Canada. AIRBNB may not be a mainstream hospitality model, but the Essence of Airbnb is true to traditional hospitality where we welcome guests to our homes. Let’s hear how she hosts people locally and globally, workers and leisure’s to give them a taste of Canadian hospitality. As the industry shifts into the gig economy in the last few years, how do we pivot and learn from them? Hint: the personalisation and autonomy brings about plenty of space of creativity.

Do you think AIRBNB is a direct competitor to hotel accommodations?
How do we understand the needs of personal space of our customers and communicate effectively?
20 SEP 2020 · The art of being Wenjie is being earnest and he is the guy you want to have in your team because he is a positive individual who is open to learn and grow in any capacity. He brings joy to his team and his guest and that is where he derives his intrinsic satisfaction at work. He values the interaction face time with our guests, to be able to understand and create a memorable experience during their stay.
Thoughts:
As we generously give our heartfelt services to our guests, do we also allow ourselves to receive the generosity from our guests in return?
While maximising the yield of hotel rooms revenue, are we doing it in the right conscience and not discounting the experiences from our guests who choose to stay with us?
13 SEP 2020 · Ajinckya’s deliverance of service is classic, luxury and attentive to details with his own flavour in the personal touch. He talks about using technology to connect with guests more effectively especially during these changing times. Due to the locality and nature of his establishment, he had been immersed with managing these changes. What can we learn from him in this experience?

6 SEP 2020 · Pankaj is a budding Influencer in Hospitality Industry. He shares his insights working in Hospitality, and helps his peers and connections on LinkedIN to network better. This is his way of giving back to the industry that had given him so much ever since he was a teenager. Pankaj shared an interesting motivation that started off his career, thanks to a celebrity tennis player and his style of "nothing is impossible" efforts in his Hospitality career.
He's now relocated to Canada to start a new and fresh life with his family.
30 AUG 2020 · Mahika looks at human connection as a form of empowerment, taking care of the future of the industry through the people who power the industry. We will bring some awareness to the challenges and changes we see in the tourism in Sri Lanka, after almost 2 years of standstill due to the effect of the Easter bombing and COVID-19. We discuss the diversity of hospitality - going into Eco-tourism, sustainable business, community outreach in hospitality. 23 AUG 2020 · When I first met Kelly, I could feel the passion run from her hands all the way to the cocktail she poured me. She is the quintessential hospitality professional, very friendly, service focussed, extremely knowledgeable and definitely knows what she is doing. What started for her as a part-time job turned into a career for a lifetime. She shares what gets her ready for the day and keeps her in check through the day in this video.
16 AUG 2020 · David has a wealth of experience in Restaurants. Don't be fooled by his calm voice and unassuming demeanour. David is curious, driven, a true zest for life and a real sense of humour. He builds his teams and motivates them by inculcating the right values through being a positive role model. His stories are so compelling and he shares wisdom from his father and some of his neat tricks for getting big tips! Did you guys catch it? :)

9 AUG 2020 · Ana had a decorated career in Hospitality, she had experienced the industry in multiple facets from the Front of House and Heart of house. She started her career in Europe and came to Asia for an opportunity. She shares an interesting perspective she experienced in the complete culture shift and the difference in the way the Hospitality Industry is delivered, viewed and valued in different parts of the world as a professional and as a guest.

What can we do to strike a balance between warmth and effectiveness in Hospitality Service?
Can the professional value of hospitality take a turn by empowering our people?
2 AUG 2020 · Don't be fooled by her soft-spoken nature! I am convinced that Cindy is a powerhouse when it comes to problem handling. Working in a hotel sometimes mean that you become responsible for the lives and experience of the guests even before they step into the premises. Having what it takes to anticipate, comfort, and understand the guest's needs and expectations is a skill that can be learned but to have the heart, free of judgements and openly receiving and reacting in the moment is really an innate talent. More importantly, setting a good example as a leader brings the positivity into the workplace.

When and how do we start understanding our guests as individuals?
How do we free ourselves from the inevitable pre-conceptualised stereotypes?
26 JUL 2020 · Ishani is the guest whisperer! Her amiable personality wins the hearts of the guests wherever she goes. Having worked for 5 different brands, she continuously challenges herself and empowers her teams to provide the best experiences. She treats her guests as family and would go to the ends to care for them even after they leave the hotel. I apologise in advance for the dust that got in your eyes when she was telling her story. What an infectious and passionate person she is!
