Sean Horlor and Steve J. Adams, the duo directors behind the highly anticipated documentary (currently screening at SXSW) trace Satanic Panic Ground Zero to Victoria, BC and a book Michelle Remembers published on November 1, 1980.
Satan Wants You offers the type of candid conversations with rational experts that we didn’t have in the 80s or even 90s: insights flow from a Wiccan police detective, an FBI agent from Mindhunter (yes the same department as the Fincher TV show), a memory expert offers her analysis and even somebody from the misunderstood world of the Church of Satan speaks.
The filmmakers delve deep into the quirky beliefs, practices, and ugly misconceptions surrounding this relentless moral panic which sadly is not past tense. Satanic Panics are not something we used to do like renting videos from Blockbuster.
QAnon and the recent PizzaGate are moral panics once again rooted in the ritual sacrifice and harm of children. Even as there is no evidence for any of it.
Satan Wants You is more than just a documentary about Satanists consuming our children or using them for baby wax. It’s a fascinating exploration of human nature, spirituality, and the complex interplay between religion and society.
We should protect children…but the thing is…if you look under their bed and in their closets and there are no monsters then maybe…there really are no monsters.

Our guest for this episode is JM Brandt, writer of the horror comic, Swamp Dogs: House of Crows (Scout/Black Caravan). We talk about the 1985 Dan O'Bannon horror comedy, The Return of the Living Dead and its very punk, but sometimes not punk soundtrack, which features artists such as The Cramps, TSOL, Roky Erikson, and SSQ. We also chat about how the music fits within the film, Dan O'Bannon's underrated screenwriting career, and how the movie takes places on JM Brandt's and my birthday, which also happens to be shared by a very famous celebrity.

We discuss Margaret White, AKA Carrie's mom, from the film Carrie (1976)! We talk: Telekinesis, the boys sniffin' and dating you, hyperreligiosity, things we believe in that others might find weird, and much more as we attempt to understand and relate to Margaret White. At the end, Tiana shares her horrifying poem written from Margaret's perspective. This episode is almost as horrifying as the movie Carrie itself and beware of...the blood!!!!!!!!

We love Top 10 lists here at Watch Out! Horror, but let's face it - whenever you see/read/hear a list of the Top 10 Best Horror Movies, the same classic films will show up again and again. Which is great, because they deserve it! But for this, our first Top 10 episode, we each decided to dig a bit deeper and find ten horror movies that probably haven't been on a Top 10 list before.
So this episode offers a whopping 28 Horror Movie Recommendations as we count down our Top 10 Favorite Under the Radar Horror Movies. We've got slashers, creature features, Lovecraftian tales, gore-fests, horror-comedies, sci-fi horrors, ghost stories, mysteries, possessions, vampires, found footage, paranormal phenomena, and much more! There really is something for everyone, and the common theme for each of these movies is that we believe they are underappreciated or under-seen. And sometimes both.
