22 OCT 2026 · Celebrity dance competitions have become a familiar part of Norwegian television, but their appeal goes well beyond watching famous people learn ballroom routines. These programmes bring together entertainment, competition and personal stories in a format that gives audiences something to follow from one Saturday evening to the next.
That popularity is particularly evident in Skal vi danse, Norway's long-running version of the international Dancing with the Stars format. The programme returned to TV 2 on September 26, 2026, following an anniversary season that attracted its strongest viewing figures in more than a decade. The response suggests that traditional entertainment television still has considerable pulling power in Norway.
Familiar Faces in an Unfamiliar Setting
Much of the programme's attraction comes from seeing established personalities attempt something completely outside their professional experience.
A successful singer may struggle with ballroom technique, while an athlete accustomed to physical competition can discover that dancing demands an entirely different kind of coordination. Viewers get to see familiar celebrities without the control they usually have over their public image.
The 2026 season illustrates this approach. The original lineup included singer Alessandra Mele, comedian Maria Stavang, influencer Leah Behn and former ice hockey player Alexander Bonsaksen, among others.
According to https://api.kommunikasjon.ntb.no/pressemelding/19014092/her-er-arets-skal-vi-danse-deltakere?publisherId=13318709, the broadcaster deliberately brought together personalities from entertainment, sport and social media. The variety matters. Different contestants attract different audiences, giving viewers a reason to watch even when they have little previous interest in ballroom dancing.
Why the Competition Keeps Viewers Interested
Celebrity recognition may attract the initial audience, but competition provides the reason to return.
Each performance introduces a fresh challenge. Contestants must learn new techniques, adjust to unfamiliar music and cope with the pressure of performing live. Some improve rapidly, while others struggle despite considerable effort. The results are not always predictable. A contestant with little dancing experience can outperform someone who appeared physically better prepared.
This uncertainty encourages discussion about judges' scores, individual performances and possible eliminations. The current season has already produced notable results. Leah Behn and professional partner Andreas Hiim scored 39 points for their contemporary dance on October 17, while several competitors have left the programme during the opening weeks.
Readers following the competition can find updated contestants, scores and elimination details in the https://norgetimes.com/skal-vi-danse-2026-deltakere/ published by Norge Times.
A Television Format Built Around Personal Progress
Unlike competitions where established talent determines the outcome, celebrity dancing programmes place considerable emphasis on improvement. Audiences watch contestants make mistakes during rehearsals, overcome nerves and gradually become more confident performers.
Professional dance partners also play an important role. They must teach complicated routines while adapting to personalities with different abilities, schedules and expectations. The relationship between dancer and celebrity often becomes part of the entertainment itself. Successful performances can feel more rewarding because viewers have followed the preparation behind them. This gives the programme an emotional dimension that ordinary talent competitions sometimes struggle to reproduce.
Why Live Television Still Matters
Norwegian audiences now have access to extensive streaming libraries and international entertainment. Yet live competitions offer something on-demand programmes cannot fully replicate: the experience of watching an uncertain result unfold alongside thousands of other viewers.
Saturday broadcasts create opportunities for conversations at home and online. Performances can generate immediate reactions, while eliminations provide talking points long after the programme ends. The wider interest is reflected in the coverage of the 2026 season by established Norwegian publications, including https://www.vg.no/rampelys/i/Pda2L5/skal-vi-danse-2026-dette-er-aarets-deltakere.
Such attention demonstrates how celebrity competitions can remain part of national entertainment conversations despite increasingly fragmented viewing habits.
What Keeps Skal vi danse Relevant?
The programme's longevity does not depend on reinventing its format every season. Its strength lies in combining recognisable personalities with challenges that audiences can understand. Viewers do not need specialist knowledge to recognise a difficult performance, appreciate improvement or feel disappointed when a favourite contestant leaves.
For broadcasters, finding that balance is increasingly valuable. Celebrity dance shows offer familiar entertainment while allowing each new cast to create different stories.
As the 2026 competition continues towards its December 12 final, Skal vi danse remains an example of why Norwegian audiences have not abandoned traditional Saturday-night television.
The celebrities may change, but the attraction of watching familiar faces confront an unfamiliar challenge remains remarkably consistent.

22 JAN 2026 · Finland rarely makes the loudest promises when it comes to career opportunities. Unlike countries known for enormous salaries or rapid corporate expansion, Finland attracts professionals for different reasons. Predictable working conditions, employee protections, and a workplace culture built around trust have made it an appealing destination for people thinking beyond their next paycheck.
Still, building a career in Finland requires realistic expectations. The country offers genuine professional advantages, but language requirements, a relatively small job market, and differences between industries can affect how quickly someone progresses.
What Makes Finnish Working Life Different?
One noticeable feature of Finnish workplaces is the relatively limited emphasis on hierarchy. Employees are generally expected to manage their responsibilities independently, communicate openly, and contribute ideas regardless of their position.
Managers tend to value reliability over unnecessary supervision. Meetings are usually straightforward, and employees are encouraged to respect agreed working hours. This approach can be refreshing for professionals accustomed to workplaces where long hours are treated as evidence of commitment.
Finnish employment legislation and collective agreements also establish important protections concerning working conditions, holidays, and employee rights. These arrangements provide a useful foundation for anyone planning to remain in the workforce for many years.
Are There Enough Career Opportunities in Finland?
Finland has established strengths in technology, engineering, manufacturing, healthcare, and several specialist industries. International companies also provide opportunities for professionals with relevant technical expertise.
However, opportunities are not distributed equally. Helsinki, Espoo, and Tampere generally offer broader possibilities in technology and international business, while smaller cities may have fewer openings in specialised professions.
The Finnish labour market is relatively small. Finding a suitable position can take time, particularly when competition increases or employers reduce recruitment. Professionals exploring available positions can consult https://www.workinfinland.com/en/open-jobs/, which lists employment opportunities for English-speaking applicants.
Developing professional skills and maintaining industry connections can also improve long-term career prospects.
Can You Earn a Competitive Salary in Finland?
Salary expectations deserve careful attention before making a long-term career decision. Finland offers competitive compensation in many skilled professions, although salaries may not match those available in some larger international markets.
Earnings depend on qualifications, experience, industry, and location. Two employees working in similar roles may receive different compensation depending on their responsibilities and employer.
Anyone considering employment in Finland should research typical earnings before negotiating a contract. Finnish salary information available through https://palkka.io/ can provide a useful starting point for understanding compensation across different professions.
It is equally important to consider taxation and everyday expenses. A higher gross salary does not automatically translate into greater purchasing power, particularly when housing and other living costs are considered.
Does Work-Life Balance Make a Difference?
For many professionals, Finland's strongest attraction is the possibility of maintaining a career without allowing work to dominate personal life.
Paid annual leave, regulated working hours, and established employment protections help create conditions in which employees can plan their lives outside the workplace. According to guidance published by https://infofinland.fi/en/work-and-enterprise/during-employment, employees have legal rights concerning working conditions, holidays, and other aspects of employment.
Flexible working arrangements are also available in some professions, although their availability depends on the employer and the nature of the work. These conditions become particularly valuable for professionals planning to raise a family, pursue further education, or maintain personal interests alongside their careers.
Is the Finnish Language Necessary for Career Growth?
Language remains one of the biggest practical challenges for international professionals. English-speaking positions exist, particularly within multinational businesses and technology companies. However, many organisations still expect employees to communicate in Finnish or Swedish. This becomes increasingly relevant when pursuing management responsibilities, customer-facing positions, or opportunities outside internationally oriented companies.
Learning Finnish is therefore more than a cultural advantage. It can substantially expand employment options and make professional relationships easier to develop.
Is Finland Worth Choosing for the Long Term?
Finland can be an excellent place to build a lasting career, provided expectations match the realities of its employment market. Professionals seeking predictable working conditions, meaningful responsibilities, and time for life outside work may find considerable value in the Finnish approach.
Those prioritising rapid salary growth, frequent promotions, or access to a very large employment market may encounter limitations. Ultimately, Finland rewards preparation, patience, and professional adaptability. A successful career here depends not simply on finding a good first job, but on developing the skills, language abilities, and relationships that create opportunities over the years.
