4 APR 2021 · In this episode, the Kings have their first guest, Betty Sawyer a.k.a., "Ms. Betty."
Betty Sawyer is the Community Engagement Coordinator in Access & Diversity at Weber State University. Betty has been a change agent in the city of Ogden and in Utah for over 40 years. Betty moved to Utah after graduating from HBCU Morgan State University in Baltimore with a BS degree. She earned a second bachelor’s in physical therapy and her master’s in Public Administration from the University of Utah.
Her advocacy work includes the creation of the state’s Martin Luther King Jr. Human Rights Commission while serving as Director of the Governor’s Office of Black Affairs, the Utah Juneteenth Freedom & Heritage Festival/Holiday, Charter member of the Greater Salt Lake Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., the Utah Black Roundtable and co-founder of Project Success Coalition, a local grassroots non-profit focusing on health, education, cultural arts, and advocacy.
Ms. Betty is president of the Ogden NAACP and serves on numerous state, local and national boards including the Ogden Diversity Commission, U.S. Civil Rights Commission/State Advisory Committee, the Utah Board of Juvenile Justice, and the National Juneteenth Observance Foundation. Her motto is Ubuntu: "I am because we are and because we are, therefore I am"; and points to the universal bonds of humanity that connect us all.
Ms. Betty is a soundboard for empowerment in the Black community. Listen in as she breaks down how we build and sustain culture in our communities.

This time special guest Geno Odong joins the KINGS HOUR roundtable to discuss this topic. Geno is a former collegiate football player at Utah State University, graduating in Human Movement Science with an emphasis on Exercise Physiology. Geno is now a licensed Master Cosmetologist/Barber for the past 10 years. Originally, Geno hails from Las Vegas Nevada but currently resides in Logan Utah with his wife, stepson, and newborn.
Geno's situation is unique, for he is in an interracial marriage and lives in a predominately white community. The Kings dive deep into gaining perspective of what dating is like being black in an all-white community.

Kelli Washington, an African American Queen and licensed clinical therapist sits down with the KINGS to discuss the mental state of the Black community. Kelli is originally from Salt Lake City but now resides in Los Angeles. She has been practicing for 7 years in a variety of settings including treatment programs, hospitals, schools, and her private practice. Currently, through COVID-19, the focus has been on her private practice specializing in anxiety, depression, academic difficulties, work-life balance, relationships, life changes in teens and young adults.
Mental struggles can come in many different forms, listen in as the KINGS Hour breaks down the many different levels of Mental Health and how we get better as a Community.

18 JUN 2021 · JUNETEENTH! Official day of freedom from the 300 plus years of Slavery in the United States. On June 19th, 1865 President Abraham Lincoln’s emancipation proclamation executive order freeing all slaves from slavery reached Galveston Texas.
On this episode of KINGS Hour, we asked Mrs. Betty Sawyer to come back to the show to drop some more knowledge; this time about the Juneteenth celebration. Ms. Betty, created the Juneteenth celebration in Utah 32 years ago. Educating the Utah community and all of our young black leaders on the importance of why we have our freedom today. Sacrifices from our ancestors are to be commemorated not just on June 19th, but each and everyday.
