10 DEC 2018 · EP 59: "Are Teams Shooting Too Many Threes in the NBA? & The Knicks Continue to Struggle!"
12/9/2018
NBA TALK-
- The Chicago Bulls recently fired former Bulls Head Coach Fred Hoiberg. The Bulls had lost 11 of their previous 12 games and they had a 5-19 start! Hoiberg NBA coaching record was115-155!
- In other Chicago Bulls news, Lauri Marrkhanen finally returned from an elbow injury (which caused him to miss the first 23 games of the season). Marrkhanen led the Bulls to a much-needed win with 24 points and the game winning basket over the Thunder in a 114-112 win, which also the new Bulls Head Coach Jim Boylen’s home debut! Unfortunately, they followed that win with an epic loss to the Celtics 133-77!
- A three-team NBA trade recently took place. The Milwaukee Bucks acquired point guard George Hill from Cleveland, and forward Jason Smith and a 2021 second-round pick from Washington.
- The Cavs received Matthew Dellavedova and center John Henson, along with 2021 first-and second-round draft picks from Milwaukee.
- The Wizards acquired Sam Dekker from Cleveland via Milwaukee and swapped second round draft picks with Cleveland, with the Cavs sending the Wizards’ 2021 first round lottery protected pick and may not convey until 2024, back to Washington for the Wizards’ 2022 selection.
- This deal could also potentially save the Bucks about $19 million dollars next season if they choose not to keep Hill (only $1 million guaranteed).
FAST BREAK-
- Masai Ujiri, Toronto Raptors President of Operations in a recent two-day celebration of his Giants of Africa basketball program, Masai Ujiri stated and I quote, “I’m confident to say there are 10 Embiids walking around, there are 10 whosevers walking around in Africa.” Africa’s current population is presently estimated between 1.2 billion and 1.3 billion, with the median age being 19.4 years according to worldmeters.info. Is Ujiri being somewhat disrespectful or is he just being truthful?
OPEN COURT-

KNICKS WEEKLY ROUND-UP-

- The guys review the Knicks loss to the Wizards 110-107.
- The Knicks followed that loss by going “back to back,” losing to the Boston Celtics 128-100.
- Lastly, last night the Knicks loss to the Brooklyn Nets 112-104.
- Win/ loss predictions for the Knicks this upcoming week: (i.e. Hornets, Cavs, Hornets).
BEHIND THE SCENES-
- Flau breaks down the Westchester Knicks recent loss to the Oklahoma City Blue 107-102 in the NBA G League!
HOT TOPIC-
- Gregg Popovich recently lamented the currently aesthetics in the NBA. “There’s no basketball anymore, there’s no beauty in it,” he said. “These days there’s such an emphasis on the three because it’s proven to be analytically correct.”
- Also, Shaq recently gave the “Superman” moniker to Giannis Antetokounmpo because he plays through the post and even went on to say, “He does what a lot of big guys need to do, take their big as*, down in the paint.”
- Therefore, the guys discuss should NBA teams continue to chase the 3-point shot as whole, or should certain teams like the current Philadelphia 76ers (Embid recently complained about having to play near the 3-point line, since they acquired Jimmy Butler, in order to make more spacing.) go back to playing through the post like a lot of teams did in the 1990’s teams such as the Houston Rockets with Hakeem Olajuwon, the Indiana Pacers with Rick Smits, and even our own New York Knicks with Patrick Ewing), or is it too late and this “style of play” has already been permanently phased out of the NBA?
