Nothing Typical

  • Navigating Style with Sensory Issues

3 JUL 2024 · This month I’m back with an episode all about sensory-friendly clothing! What is it? Why is it important, and how the heck do you find it? I’ll be answering all of these questions and more in this episode. I talk about my experience thrifting versus traditional stores, my favourite brands for sensory-friendly pieces, and ways I think companies could make their stores more acessible in regards to sensory needs.  P.S. Turns out you can rip your clothes when using a seam ripper to take out tags… may have found this out the hard way, so anyways, be careful and happy altering! Sensory-Friendly Clothing Definition Resource (Important note: I don’t agree with all the language on this page, it just is unfortunately the best definition I found with my quick search) https://www.sensoryfriendly.net/sensory-friendly-clothing/ Thank you so much for listening! • A teary-eyed goodbye | reminiscing over friends, stressing about finals, & moving out

25 MAY 2024 · It’s been a minute! On where I’ve been, life updates, masking/unmasking, and a sentimental reflection on this past Uni year.   Content Warning: Meltdowns (definition, causes, and characteristics) are briefly discussed in this episode between 9:30 and 12:32. Feel free to skip as you see fit if this is a difficult subject for you <3 This episode was honestly a bit scary to post especially when talking openly about meltdowns, something I've never really done before. Meltdowns have often been something I have been made to feel shame for from strangers and peers alike throughout my life. However, I want to remind anyone who experiences meltdowns, including myself, that you are important, you deserve compassion and you are worthy of love, not only for the more accepted aspects of your autistic identity but the more challenging parts too.  Thank you so much for listening, with love - Kylie Grace  Definition and Info Page Mentioned: https://www.autism.org.uk/advice-and-guidance/topics/behaviour/meltdowns/all-audiences IG: @nothingtypicalpod Email: https://gmail.com Podcast theme music by https://transistor.fm/?via=music. I don't know when I'll graduate

14 MAR 2024 · As a third-year in University, one of the most common questions I've been asked recently is "Are you excited to graduate next year?" The answer is; I'm not. This is because I'm not graduating next year, and that's okay. In this first episode of Nothing Typical, I discuss my experience navigating accommodations, time management and self-advocacy at University. I discuss the imperfect mindsets around accommodations many Universities adopt, how this can affect our own perspectives, and tips on how to best suit academic experiences to fit your individual needs.  Have any questions or topics you would like me to discuss? Nothing is Typical in your twenties, but nothing is ever typical when you are Atypical. Hi, I’m Kylie Grace and welcome to Nothing Typical. In this podcast, I dive into my experience of being autistic and navigating my twenties. I explore topics such as my current time in University, my current favourite things, my autistic journey, and anything and everything in between. I started this podcast because, though there are numerous sources on the internet about being young and unsure about life, I’ve often felt like there was an extra piece of the equation for me that others don’t often mention. I’m hoping if you feel similarly that I can be a source of relatiably or comfort for you. New episodes will be on the 14th of every month (I’m working on starting a new hobby without doing too much at the start - a very foreign concept for me). If you are new to this cozy corner of the internet, I am happy you’re here and invite you to stay a while. With Love, Kylie Grace.
