26 AUG 2026 · Prayer: The Struggle Is Real
1 Kings 17:12-15 When Elijah met the widow of Zarephath gathering sticks by the well, he asked her for water — then for bread. She had nothing left but a handful of flour and a little oil, enough for one last meal before she and her son expected to die. Elijah told her to feed him first, and only then herself and her son. She obeyed, and the flour and oil never ran out. This story captures a tension every believer knows: staying obedient to what God has called us to do, even when it looks selfish, harsh, or strange to the world. Elijah didn't ease the widow's fear before asking her to trust — he asked her to act in faith first. And the widow's struggle was just as real: choosing to feed a stranger before her own child felt like the opposite of being a good mother, yet it was an act of faith that God honored. This devotional sits with that discomfort — the moments when following God's mission puts us at odds with how the world (or even our own instincts) says a "good" person should act. It's a reminder that staying focused on what God has spoken over us, even when we can't explain it to others, is where the miracle happens. In His time, God doesn't just keep His promise — He vindicates those who stayed faithful when it didn't make sense. 25 AUG 2026 · In Prayer: Staying Focused is Harder Than You Think, Part Two, we continue with Proverbs 4:25–26 and look at one of the hardest distractions we face—not our enemies, but the people we love. Our spouses, children, parents, family members, and closest friends may love God and genuinely want the best for us, yet they can unintentionally become a “poison pill” that delays or distracts us from the mission and vision God has given us. Jesus teaches us that our commitment to Him must come before every earthly relationship, not because we should stop loving our families, but because nothing can be allowed to take God’s place or pull us away from His calling. That is what makes staying focused so difficult: when the people we love need us, guilt, worry, shame, and responsibility can make us feel as though we are abandoning them when we continue doing what God told us to do. But Proverbs reminds us to keep looking straight ahead, carefully mark out the path before us, and remain focused. Sometimes obedience means loving the people around us while still refusing to come down from the work God has called us to complete, because there is a promise waiting on the other side of our obedience. 24 AUG 2026 · Prayer: Staying Focused is Harder Than You Think is a morning devotional founded on Proverbs 4:25–27, which instructs us to look straight ahead, fix our eyes on what lies before us, and stay on the path God has marked out. What I have come to realize is that the closer we get to completing a divine mission or vision, the harder it can become to remain focused. In Nehemiah 6, Nehemiah’s enemies repeatedly tried to pull him away from rebuilding the wall, but he recognized that every moment spent away from the work was a moment lost from the assignment God had given him. Yet distractions do not always come from obvious enemies. Sometimes they come through people we love—family, friends, and even well-meaning believers who require our attention or encourage us to move in a direction contrary to what God personally instructed us to do. 1 Kings 13 reminds us how dangerous it can be to abandon God’s direct instruction simply because another person claims to have a different word for us. The lesson is simple but challenging: staying focused on what God has called you to do is much harder than it appears. We must learn to recognize both the distractions from outside and the distractions from within, guard our time, remain obedient, and keep our eyes fixed on the path God has placed before us. 20 AUG 2026 · Prayer: It's All About Discipline Grounded in Hebrews twelve, seven through eleven, New Living Translation, this devotional reclaims a word we've gotten wrong. The Greek behind God's discipline is paideia , not the language of the courtroom, but the language of a father raising a beloved child. When we confess and turn to Christ, we are already forgiven, already redeemed. What follows isn't payback, it's parenting. This devotional walks through the three faces discipline can wear, correction, instruction, and the quiet perseverance of staying the course, and asks a searching question: are we living as legitimate children, shaped by his hand, or merely claiming his name? Because discipline is never comfortable. But it is proof that we are loved, and that we belong. 19 AUG 2026 · Prayer: Study, Learn, Grow
Foundational Scripture: Proverbs 24:16 (NLT)Proverbs 24:16 reminds us that “The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again.” Falling is not the end of the story; sometimes it is the classroom God uses to develop us. In my own journey, I had to confront a difficult truth: when different people, vendors, customers, and circumstances changed but the struggles continued, the one constant was me. That realization forced me to stop looking outward and start looking inward. Study the situation and ask, What am I missing? What don’t I know? Learn from the mistakes, allowing God to develop the gifts and abilities He has already placed within you. If we are willing to learn, God is willing to teach. And when we apply what He teaches us, we grow. Knowledge alone is not power; knowledge gives us access to power, but wisdom teaches us how to use it properly. Sometimes our greatest breakthrough begins when we stop blaming everyone else and have the courage to say, “Maybe I need to change.” The godly may fall, but through study, learning, wisdom, and God’s instruction, we get back up stronger, wiser, and better prepared for what He has called us to do. 18 AUG 2026 · Prayer: God’s Word Requires Action is a morning devotional rooted in James 1:22–25 (NLT), with special focus on verse 22: hearing God’s Word is not enough—we must put it into action. Scripture warns that when we listen without obeying, we are only fooling ourselves. Being a believer is more than acknowledging that God exists; it means allowing what God says to shape how we live, how we respond, and what we do. Faith requires movement. Even when Scripture tells us to “be still,” that does not mean becoming inactive while waiting for God to move. There are seasons when being still means preparing, learning, growing, praying, and positioning ourselves for what God has already spoken. God gives direction, and through His Spirit we receive the wisdom and understanding necessary to respond. We cannot pray for change while refusing to move when God gives instruction. Prayer is powerful, but prayer must be accompanied by obedience. God’s Word requires action. 14 AUG 2026 · Prayer: Enjoy What You DoEcclesiastes 2:24–25 reminds us that even King Solomon, after experiencing incredible wealth, wisdom, success, and failure, came to understand a simple truth: the ability to enjoy life and find satisfaction in our work is a gift from the hand of God. God has given each of us unique gifts, talents, and abilities, and when we operate in what He has placed within us, there can be genuine joy in what we do. Maybe you are already walking in that purpose, or maybe you have discovered that the job you currently have is not where your heart or gifts truly belong. That does not mean you should recklessly walk away from your responsibilities. Instead, use this season to reflect, discover, and develop what God has placed inside of you. Be faithful where you are, prepare for where God may be taking you, and trust Him to open the right door at the right time. Every breath, every meal, every opportunity, and every day of work is a gift from God. Life is too precious to spend all of it miserable. Find the blessing in today, develop the gifts God has given you, and learn to enjoy what you do. 13 AUG 2026 · Foundational Scripture: Hebrews 12:1–3 (NLT)Prayer: Focus is a reminder that we cannot allow the distractions, temptations, opposition, or desires of this world to pull us away from the mission and vision God has placed before us. Hebrews 12:1–3 calls us to lay aside everything that slows us down and to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the ultimate example of endurance. Christ endured ridicule, rejection, suffering, and hostility, yet He never abandoned His assignment—and today He sits in the place of honor at the right hand of God.As men and women of God, we must do the same. We cannot chase after everything the world offers and still expect to remain focused on what God has called us to accomplish. Do not give up. Do not detour. Do not allow anyone or anything to distract you from your God-given purpose. Keep moving forward, keep your eyes on Christ, and above all—remain focused. 12 AUG 2026 · Prayer: It’s So HardFoundational Scripture: Hebrews 10:35–36 (NLT)Sometimes the hardest part of faith is not enduring what people do to us—it is choosing to respond the way God calls us to respond. We will encounter people whose motives are selfish, people who discourage us, drain us, hurt us, or even try to interfere with the dreams and purpose God has placed within us. Genuine encouragers can feel rare and precious, which makes the journey of faith even more challenging.Hebrews 10:35–36 reminds us not to throw away our confident trust in God, but to patiently endure so that we can continue doing His will and receive what He has promised. Prayer: It’s So Hard is about the difficult discipline of responding with grace when anger would be easier, forgiving when retaliation would feel better, and continuing to love when someone has given us every reason not to.Christ showed extraordinary patience toward us even when we resisted Him, ran from Him, and failed Him. Now, as believers, we are called to reflect that same love, patience, grace, and forgiveness to others. That is what makes it so hard: we cannot allow someone else’s behavior to determine our character. We must continue becoming the image of the God we serve, trusting that if we patiently endure and remain faithful, God will take care of everything else.
