14 JAN 2025 · The Buckeyes have advanced to the ultimate game — the College Football Playoff championship game — after battling to a 28-14 win over a game Texas Longhorns squad that pushed them to the closing moments of the game. While Ohio State made things a lote more difficult than they needed to be through a parade of penalties and an early third-quarter turnover, Texas deserves a lot of credit for making it a four-quarter struggle. Ultimately, Jack Sawyer ascended to the pantheon of all-time Buckeye legends with a play for the ages to seal the win.
We look back at the Cotton Bowl’s key plays and statistics, check in on our picks to click, and review our score preview from one of the best games of this year’s College Football Playoff.
Following our game recap, we looked at Ohio State transfer portal news with two more current Buckeyes headed into the portal at season’s end. We also discussed Buckeye great Mike Vrabel’s new coaching gig and congratulate a pair of former Ohio State players for earning All-Pro honors in the NFL.
Finally, we look ahead to Notre Dame. Ohio State will face a familiar face in former OSU linebacker Marcus Freeman, who coaches a Fighting Irish team that looks a lot like the 2002 national champion Buckeyes. They’ve got a strong defense, better-than-they-seem skill players, a quarterback who isn’t flashy but finds ways to get things done, and a team that won’t ever quit. Ryan Day will have to beat Tresselball to win a national championship on Jan. 20. We preview the matchup, select the players we think will perform well for Ohio State, and give our score predictions.

7 JAN 2025 · Ohio State was able to ring in the new year the right way, obliterating the Oregon Ducks in the Rose Bowl to earn a place in the College Football Playoff semifinals. The Buckeyes opened the game white hot on both sides of the ball, carving up the Duck defense in just a few plays and harassing Dillon Gabriel when Oregon’s offense tried to get things going. It was a few plays from being a perfect game from Will Howard, Jeremiah Smith, TreVeyon Henderson, Jack Sawyer, Caleb Downs, Cody Simon, and company.
We looked back at the quarterfinal matchup, gladly ate some necessary crow over our score predictions from last week, checked to see how our picks to click performed (spoiler: one of us picked both the offensive and defensive MVPs of the game), and broke down the game’s key plays.
After our Oregon rewind, we discussed the other College Football Playoff games and bowl games involving Big Ten teams. The conference continues to show well against everyone else. SEC fans are quick to point out that it’s for no reason other than the games being meaningless, though. The B1G couldn’t possibly be having a good year, and there’s no way the SEC took a half step down in 2024, so just get that thought out of your head right now.
After checking the scoreboard, we discussed some transfer portal news. It was completely up to date at the time we recorded, but since then the Buckeyes have added a linebacker and lost a running back. Life, especially in the portal era, comes at you fast.
Finally, we looked ahead to Friday’s titanic tilt against Texas in...Texas. Yes, the road before
Ohio State was stacked as much as it could be against the Buckeyes when this journey began, but that’s what you get for losing to Michigan. We checked out the Longhorns’ rankings and discussed Ohio State’s challenges before selecting our offensive and defensive picks to click and making our score predictions.

0:20 - A look back at a thoroughly satisfying revenge win over the Oregon Ducks in the Grandaddy of them All.
35:21 - A walk through the other College Football Playoff games and B1G-centric bowl games with a side order of transfer portal news.
1:04:31 - The College Football Playoff continues for Ohio State with a semifinal matchup against former Buckeye Quinn Ewers and his Texas teammates. We preview and predict it.

31 DEC 2024 · It’s our final show of the 2024 calendar year, and it’s a doozy. We started it off by discussing the latest Ohio State transfer portal news, with the most recent incoming and outgoing names and what those transfers mean for the Buckeyes. After the portal talk, it’s time to walk through the other Big Ten results from the bowl games that have taken place since our episode last week.
Rutgers kind of blew it, but Nebraska and USC took care of business in the lead-up to the College Football Playoff quarterfinal games in the middle of this week (which start tonight with Penn State facing Boise State). Oh, and we also talked a little about the Pop-Tarts Bowl because it was a lot of fun, lack of defense notwithstanding.
Speaking of the Nittany Lions and the Broncos, we gave our thoughts on what we think will happen as the three “other” big games this week pare the CFP pool down to just four semifinalists.
Finally, it was time to weigh in on Ohio State against Oregon on New Year’s Day. The Buckeyes will be out for revenge, but which OSU team will we see in the Rose Bowl? We talk about the offensive and defensive rankings in what looks to be a game that mixes physicality with skill on both sides, make our choices for our offensive and defensive picks to click for the Buckeyes, and give our final score predictions.

0:20 - Ohio State transfer portal arrivals and a quarterback departure (and where he’s headed). Also, the Big Ten’s bowl season so far.
29:55 - The College Football Playoff schedule and matchups, as well as our picks to click and score predictions for Ohio State vs. Oregon.

24 DEC 2024 · Ohio State more than took care of business against the Tennessee Volunteers Saturday night in the first round of the College Football Playoff. Despite reports that the stadium was going to be half-filled with Tennessee fans, Buckeye fans showed out and were loud, spurring on an offense and a defense that clicked almost the entire 60 minutes.
We opened this week’s show with a letter from a listener, and then discussed the Ohio State transfer portal news from the previous week. Had we recorded Monday night instead of Sunday afternoon, there would have been a lot more arrivals to discuss. As it is, we talked about two more departures and the landing spots of two previous Buckeye defectors.
Following the Ohio State news, we talked about the other College Football Playoff matchups, what home field advantage meant in the first playoff games on campuses, and the lazy narrative of which teams do or do not “belong.” If wins and losses don’t matter because of schedules being weaker or stronger, we’re not sure how to address that, because teams must play their schedules. The solution to being left out, as always, is win your games.
Finally, we broke down the 42-17 Ohio State win that could have been more lopsided against the Vols. The offensive line held up much better than expected, the play-calling was aggressive and inventive, and...well, where was this a couple of weeks ago? We checked in on our picks to click and our score predictions to see how well we anticipated things.
We also touched on the broadcast, which at times seemed to be gaslighting us about how many Tennessee fans were among the 105,000 people in Ohio Stadium, and at times seemed to be painting many Ohio State fans as insane for suggesting the team’s head football coach should occasionally beat its greatest rival, especially when the Buckeyes have the much better roster.

0:20 - Ohio State news, including new portal additions and landing spots for guys who were already in the transfer portal a week ago.
19:29 - Other College Football Playoff results and the tiresome “doesn’t belong” narrative.
30:12 - Our Tennessee game rewind and thoughts on enduring one of the most aggravating broadcasts.

17 DEC 2024 · It’s College Football Playoff game week, everyone, and we’ve got plenty to talk about. That includes some of the angst over the thought of Tennessee fans buying up some of https://www.landgrantholyland.com/’s student ticket allotment. Is this a big deal? How many could it possibly be? I guess we’ll find out on Saturday, but we’re not worried.
We touched on a stupid bill that would make planting an opposing team’s flag in Ohio Stadium’s turf a felony. Why is this necessary? Who is asking for this (aside from a legislator trying to score points with OSU fans)? We didn’t spend much time on the topic, but it was still more than it was worth.
Devin Brown is in the transfer portal...sort of. Brown declared he will enter the portal after Ohio State’s postseason run is over, so that time could come this weekend or stretch into mid-January (or somewhere in between).
There are a lot of Big Ten teams in bowl games this year, and we went down the full schedule of those matchups, throwing in a few other games of interest along the way. We think the B1G will show well in the postseason, but in the era of opt-outs and transfer portal happenings, it’s never easy to predict.
Finally, we turned our attention toward the Tennessee Volunteers. Our preview includes what we think Ohio State will have to do to get a win, which mostly consists of not letting preventable history from repeating itself. We also selected our offensive and defensive picks to click and made our final score predictions.

10 DEC 2024 · We start this week’s show with news and notes from Ohio State, including a brief look at the Buckeyes’ 2025 recruiting class. Although we don’t fancy ourselves as “recruiting guys,” there are still some conclusions we can draw from looking at Ryan Day’s latest class.
We also touched on a few Ohio State players who chose to enter the transfer portal and some guys who were honored for having standout seasons in the Big Ten in 2024. The transfer portal decisions weren’t terribly surprising, and we didn’t even get to touch on Devin Brown, who made his announcement while we were wrapping up our recording.
After the news segment, we discussed the Big Ten title game that pitted Oregon against Penn State. The Nittany Lions acquitted themselves well, but still didn’t play the Ducks as closely in Indianapolis as the Buckeyes did in Eugene. That didn’t matter much to the College Football Playoff Selection Committee.
The final poll came out and the Buckeyes found themselves at No. 8. We talked about what we didn’t like about that decision, what we liked about other decisions, and then we broke down the bracket. Ohio State has a difficult road to the semifinals, and the committee did No. 1 Oregon no favors either with the way the bracket is set up. Let us know what you thought of our analysis of the CFP bracket as we look forward to seeing 12 teams in the postseason for the first time.

0:21 - Digesting Ohio State’s class after National Signing Day, Buckeyes in the portal, other Buckeyes who won awards, and more.
22:27 - The B1G championship, Ohio State’s difficult draw, and the College Football Playoff bracket overall.

3 DEC 2024 · This is not the podcast we wanted to have, but it’s the podcast we’ve got. We look back at a calamitous day filled with bewildering coaching decisions in Ohio State’s latest loss to That Team Up North, look back at our score predictions and our picks to click, and try to make sense of such senselessness.
After our Michigan rewind, we look back at the other scores around the Big Ten to see how everyone else made out. It turns out Purdue did poorly again and now Ryan Walters is out as head coach. That’s hardly surprising after such a brutal season. Wisconsin failed to achieve bowl eligibility under Luke Fickell. Penn State took care of business against a bad Maryland squad. Rutgers rolled.
The end of the season is always a time to look back on preseason predictions, and we took a look at how the Big Ten shook out compared to how we predicted it would. We were close on a lot of the final standings but also way off on a few.
Finally, we discuss Ryan Day’s prospects for coaching at Ohio State beyond this season. Does it depend on a postseason run? Does it depend on a deep postseason run? Does his future depend on a natty? We discuss where Ohio State could even go from here if the Buckeyes move on from Day. We throw a few names around. Let us know what you think.

0:20 - The Buckeyes almost couldn’t lose The Game and did it anyway. Our list of things that went poorly is long.
30:46 - Our look around the rest of the Big Ten scores is interrupted briefly by the news that Ryan Walters is out at Purdue.
53:55 - We compare our preseason predictions for the final B1G standings to what actually took place. We won some, we lost some.
1:12:00 - Where does Ohio State go from here? Not in terms of when and where are the next game, but if/should Ryan Day be let go, who are the people who should be in the discussion as a replacement?

26 NOV 2024 · Ohio State started slowly again, but the Buckeyes took care of the previously undefeated Indiana Hoosiers in a game we thought would be closer but could have been even more lopsided than the 38-15 score indicates. We broke down the game’s key moments, looked at the statistical data, checked in on our score predictions, and learned that all of our picks to click actually clicked. It was a comprehensive victory by the Buckeyes and it’s entirely possible that despite its accomplishments this year, Indiana might not be for real.
Following our game recap, we looked around the rest of the Big Ten to check in on all the other scores, including a rivalry battle out in the City of Angels and Nebraska finally becoming bowl eligible. Wisconsin is left needing a win in a rivalry game of its own this weekend or the Badgers won’t be going bowling. Rutgers was a minute from victory and ended up losing. Minnesota threw a big scare into Penn State. Poor seasons for Purdue, Maryland, and Northwestern didn’t get any better over the weekend.
Finally, we turned our attention to Hate Week. That Team Up North has played solid defense all season but the offense is a one-trick pony. We talked about TTUN’s statistical numbers on the offensive side of the ball, made our picks to click for The Game, and tried our best to predict the final score.

0:20 - The Buckeyes needed some time to get going, but then had little trouble with the Hoosiers.
50:00 - The other schools in the Big Ten offered up few surprises this week and even fewer games that were fun to watch.
1:05:08 - The Buckeyes who returned for another season to take care of “unfinished business” have a shot at doing that starting Saturday at noon when TTUN comes to Columbus.

19 NOV 2024 · [Note: My apologies for the audio, as Chip sounded great and I did not. Unbeknownst to me, everything was running through my external laptop microphone, so I come off a bit echoey.]
Ohio State didn’t come out of the gates convincing against the Northwestern Wildcats at Wrigley Field, but the Buckeyes eventually settled in and took care of business in the final road game of the regular season. The Buckeyes ultimately won comfortably but it took a couple of quarters and a huge Northwestern mistake to get things moving in the right direction.
We break down the key plays and moments in the game, check our picks to click, and look back at our score predictions to see how we well we foretold the matchup in the Windy City.
After our Northwestern rewind, we looked at the other matchups around the Big Ten this weekend, including a close one at Camp Randall that had the Oregon Ducks on upset alert for much of the afternoon. We also tell you which teams have arrived at bowl eligibility and discuss what USC needs to do to be more competitive in the conference.
Finally, we looked ahead to a huge game against Indiana, which is not something we expected when the season started. The Hoosiers have been impressive, regardless of which teams were on their schedule. The Buckeyes are sure to have their hands full on Saturday in the Shoe. We preview the game, select the players we think will click for Ohio State, and make our score predictions.

0:52 - The Buckeyes struggled at times in the early going but took care of business against the Wildcats. Our recap and analysis.
18:05 - A look around the Big Ten, to see how everyone else made out.
42:25 - The Buckeyes host the Indiana Hoosiers in a game much bigger than we would have predicted at the start of the season. We preview it.

12 NOV 2024 · Ohio State took care of business Saturday as the Buckeyes returned home and beat the Purdue Boilermakers 45-0 in the Horseshoe. Some old heroes (TreVeyon Henderson) and new heroes (Eddrick Houston) shone brightly, lots of backups played, some experimentation took place on the defensive side of the ball, and Carnell Tate continued his meteoric development in a decisive home victory.
We checked to see how our picks to click fared, looked at our score predictions, and discussed all of the game’s key plays, talking points, and players. It was good to see an Ohio State team not struggle in the follow-up to a win over Penn State.
After our game rewind, we went through the other scores from the weekend in Big Ten action. Rutgers stopped the bleeding at the expense of Minnesota, Michigan lost yet again, Indiana improved to 10-0, Penn State bounced back, Maryland gave Oregon more of a fight than expected, and who knows what to make of Iowa?
Finally, we looked ahead to Ohio State’s trip to Chicago to face Northwestern in a baseball stadium. The Wrigley Field game still doesn’t tickle our fancy, but we are a couple of old men yelling at clouds. Money grab aside, the Buckeyes have one more week to handle their business before things get more difficult against Indiana and Michigan to close the regular season. We discuss the state of the Wildcats’ offense and conclude that the OSU defense should have another good day. Plus, our picks to click and score predictions.
