The emphasis is on the period from May 1780 to the end of the war in the back country of Georgia and the Carolinas where local volunteers organized themselves into partisan regiments to resist the British occupation. These heroic volunteers kept the fires of liberty alive and likely prevented the southern states from being severed from the north by Lord Germain's famous 'Southern Strategy'.
