Diversity and inclusion are related, but distinct terms. Diversity is simply defined as the differences and similarities we bring to Mayo. The practice of diversity is ensuring a representation of these different characteristics, and is concerned with such things as the number of people as determined by their race, ethnicity, gender, and many other demographic identifiers. Inclusion, by contrast, is deliberately creating a culture that accepts diversity, one in which people feel comfortable enough, and empowered, to participate and engage in their work and with one another regardless of their diversity. In other words, diversity is being asked to the party, inclusion is being asked to dance.

She is internationally known as “The Inclusionist,” because she creates inclusive workplaces where employees love to do their best work, and customers love to do business.
Her passion for diversity and its possibilities began in 1963 when she went on the March On Washington. In 1963. She wishes she could say that it was because of hearing Martin Luther King give his “I Have A Dream” speech, but she was too young to remember it. However, she has always remembered what it felt like to be amongst 250,000 people for the first time of all colors, cultures, and ages, rallying and marching together for change.She is the co-author with George Simons and Kate Berardo, of Putting Diversity to Work, how to successfully lead a diverse workforce, the co-author of The Diversity Calling, Building Diverse Communities One Story at a Time and the author of 110 Ways to Champion Diversity and Build Inclusion and Stress Management for the Motivated, A Workbook For You.

2 JAN 2019 · Russell Chamberlain, LCSW is a clinical social worker and parent of twin teenagers. He is the owner of LifeSTREAM Therapy LLC in Portland, OR. As a experiential behavioral health therapist Russell uses a range of approaches both in the office and outdoors, including Equine Assisted Psychotherapy, mindfulness, Collaborative Problem Solving, biofeedback, drumming, climbing walls and challenge "ropes" course activities. He provides individual and group therapy and workshops for ages 12 and up, couples and families. Working with folks in recovery from addiction and health care professionals dealing with compassion fatigue is a focus as well. Russell has supported others learning, growth and healing in a variety of settings from the classroom, outpatient offices to the wilderness for 30 years.
