Welcome to Surprise Notes! A Girls Rock London podcast. Girls Rock London is a music project for girls, women, trans people and non-binary people in London, and we’re here to tell you that there’s no such thing as a mistake when you’re making music, only surprise notes.

This series of Surprise Notes! was recorded remotely during the summer of 2020 by Estella Adeyeri, to coincide with Girls Rock London’s summer project. 100 young people between the ages of 11-16 took part in our summer project, which consisted of seven weeks of music-making, skill sharing and staying creative together whilst physically apart due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

The aim of Surprise Notes! was to provide additional resources and inspiration for young folks on their creative journey. Estella interviewed Girls Rock London alumni and asked them to share their experiences of taking part in our previous projects and music camps, spoke to artists about how they were staying connected with their practice and their collaborators during lockdown, and, spoke to Girls Rock London team members about staying mentally healthy and also flexing those creative muscles during the enforced downtime of the pandemic.
